I don't think my wife would appreciate me suggesting "pump her for a nickel" bread, as it was originally known.

To be fair, a nickel was worth a lot more back then. With inflation she might find it flattering.

Back to the flowers, I started buying them for myself from time to time. Chris is in the habit of getting me the occasional thoughtful gift (more like "I thought you would like these chips/candy/bauble/etc" which is plenty awesome actually) and caught on that occasional flowers could be in the mix.

I keep wanting to try ground cucumbers (Aka frozen silk worm pupa), but my brain can't get past their bugginess. I hear they taste like cashews, and I bet i would like them, but all I can think of is crunching down on wiggling bug limbs. Sad

If I do manage it, I will totally use them for a Halloween dish. So while people will be all, "Omg you totally made that look like bugs!" I can beall "...yes. 'look like' bugs." And then no one will eat itand all the rest will be mine.

If you eat shellfish you kind of eat bugs already. Same phylum, anyway.

The only reason I refuse to eat bugs is because as a kid I had this pet lizard that I fed meal worms to and this one time I guess he didn't crush the head and kill it before swallowing because one day I checked on him and the meal worm had survived and chewed its way out of his stomach. That's also the reason I found Aliens so disturbing as a kid.

Yeah, I get that. It's some unreasonable thing...

Finnegan, that is really horrifying. Sad

I actually refuse to eat shellfish -because- they remind me so much of bugs. The only exception is crab cakes because they are so far removed from looking like bugs I can accept the disconnect.

But now I'm going to tack on the lizard story too because damn, that is pretty freaky.

Sad My partner has many lizards (Because if you get one gecko, everyone wants to give you the one their kid had but has given up due to college). So now I'm going to think about that every time he feeds them.

I have lost a very important piece of paper that will cost me a lot of money if I can't find the proper information. I should have fucking taken care of it when I had all the papers together on Tax Day. But I was done with it and so I set it aside and I am stupid for doing that.

I didn't say that. I just find that finding some similarity to something that you already eat can help to make something new less intimidating. What you focus on matters greatly.

I've tried several new things recently that many people get squeamish over, myself included for a long while: beef liver, heart and tongue. One thing that helped for me was knowing the farmer that raised the cow, knowing it was treated and fed well and hearing a professional meat inspector say it was the best looking beef he had ever seen. I'm not saying that you can do any or all of those things, but definitely see what you can do to stack the odds in your favor, so to speak, if you are thinking of trying something adventurous.
