I hope your kitty stays okay, Samsally.

Sorry to hear about your job, Darqcyde. I hope you find something else soon.

Kitty has spent the whole day acting normal and has no eye boogers at all. What I was worried most turned out to be just red soreness combined with that second eyelid looking kinda freaky (you normally don't see it, but he was squinting a lot). I'm thinking it was probably the equivalent of a cold or something.

yeah, it turns out that that's what a cat cold looks like - they get runny eyes. the only one i had that got a really bad cold, i only realized it because she jumped down off a counter and her legs kinda went out from under her and i realized she seemed to be weak - and that turned out to be a cold.

although if it got better that quick, i wonder if he didn't get into something that irritated his eyes, and just needed time to get washed out. although i don't know what that would be - mine go walking through cobwebs and into dusty corners and things that you would think would stir up irritating particles, and it never seems to bother them. silly cats, with their inconsistent symptoms. anyway, glad your cat is fine.

and damn, darq - sorry to hear that.

I sent out an email out to the staff today alerting them to a damaged door on the supply station.

"I said that door 2 of the Pyxis machines is broken, the repair man is on his way."

I got back emails from two people who are my superiors as they say it.

one of them: "What do you mean by Pyxis machine?"
the other: "How is the staff supposed to know which door is door 2? Can you specify?"

I discuss these machines at every meeting. Each door is labelled with a number.

This shows me how well they listen to me, and that they have hands on experience with the stuff they are in control of.

"What do you mean by Pyxis machine?"

Hahahaha... how long has it been since they worked on a unit? Have they ever?

The Director of my local library basically decided to throw away thousands of books to make adding RFID tags to the remaining books easier. Their only criteria? If it was published more than 10 years ago, it's gone. I can't even put the words together.

Why not just keep them and not RFID tag them?

If they were worthless enough to toss, why not just have them unsecured on the property?

You're asking very logical questions. What you propose is very reasonable which is precisely why that fucktard did the exact opposite.

We are kind of ruthless at my library, but we have multiple criteria. We pull the books that looks worn and/or gross, and then some other folks look through the collection via the computer to see what is likely to need pulling (Mostly stuff that has been very popular and is likely worn by now, or stuff that is unpopular and is therefore taking up space.)

Soon we'll have a new bigger space with more shelves, so I wonder if we'll keep more stuff. As it is, the other county libraries pretty much send us whatever they don't have room for that can't be sent to storage yet.

I do worry a bit about the getting rid of older stuff. I know space is an issue, but at the same time it is worth keeping some of the past around.

Ten years is also a relatively short timeframe. Lots of great books are getting tossed that probably shouldn't be. Sad

that's completely insane. you can hardly make a call on whether or not something will be a classic within 10 years of publication. and a lot of things, like art books, are too expensive to republish. man, that woman sounds like she's gone nuts - if she hasn't bothered to actually look at the books there in 30 years, she really needs to stop being a librarian.

Good thing my student loan is going to be paid off because my A/C unit just kicked the bucket.
