I placed an Amazon order on Saturday, and chose Prime two-day shipping. It hasn't shipped yet and my expected arrival date is Friday.

My horror is that I can't believe I've become so spoiled that getting something in 5 days from who-knows-where is unacceptable to me.

We ordered a new camera on Amazon, it got here in 2 business days, and we used the free shipping (4-8 business days normally.)

Clearly you're just ordering the wrong things.

For months, more than a year now, I have complained about the temperature of our room. I've used basic "it's uncomfortable" complaints and even gone into the sterility factor of having a hot room to house supplies.

I have been told there is no temperature control in the room because it wasn't zoned to have people working in it. They are trying to fix it. Basically, we'll fix it one day, maybe, probably not.

JCAHO visited us today. Guess whose room has AC all of the sudden?

I've lodged several verbal complaints and told my boss that I need a link to a person to bring this complaint to. The higher the better.

Sounds like hospital administration, alright. It's good to know they're the same everywhere.

Or maybe horrible. I think probably horrible.

It's a sauna in here again.

Now you're just making me feel bad. It's taking forever and I want to play with my inflatable sheep NOW!

They can't have added and removed AC from a room that quickly, right? I'm not a contractor, or HVAC specialist, or even vaguely aware of what I'm talking about, but I assume there must be a vent somewhere they're opening and closing.

I'm sorry your workplace is apparently a junior high school, and they're just fucking with you.

There's a vent.

But no one knows where the thermostat is at. Apparently.

It's all lies to save some money.

Of course. That's how health care works, I guess. The staff do more with less, then get blamed when anything goes wrong.

It's sadly funny that your hospital literally followed the JCAHO recommendations for one day, just in case they came back to check.

But sadly completely normal. I'm just surprised they didn't get the vent fixed before JCAHO got there. Despite the visits supposedly being a big secret surprise now most facilities I've seen always seem (including the one I used to work at) to have some slight advance knowledge.

JCAHO maintains a website where organizations can check and see where the survey team is each day (read about it here, under the misleading heading of "Unannounced survey process"), plus the hospitals are grouped into cohorts and you generally know when your cohort comes up for review (and you can give black-out dates for the surveyors to avoid). So you have several hours notice before they actually arrive, plus ample time to prepare for the visit in the months leading up to the window for your cohort. So, not exactly super secret, although everyone still acts like they expect to be interrogated on the correct temperature at which to store sterile gloves, random building codes like how much space must be left unobstructed below a sprinkler head, or the chemical names of every drug that ends in "mycin."

just out of curiosity - what is this a joint commission of? they seem to be a bit cagey about that.

It was originally various separate organizations that each evaluated aspects of health care which combined in the 1950s to form the Joint Commission. From wikipedia:
Quote:
The Joint Commission's predecessor organization was an outgrowth of the efforts of Ernest Codman to promote hospital reform based on outcomes management in patient care. Codman痴 efforts led to the founding of the American College of Surgeons Hospital Standardization Program. In 1951, a new entity, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals was created by merging the Hospital Standardization Program with similar programs run by the American College of Physicians, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, and the Canadian Medical Association. In 1987, the company was renamed the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO, pronounced [Edit: mysteriously] "Jay-co").[8] In 2007, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations underwent a major rebranding and simplified its name to The Joint Commission.

For a while the Joint Commission accreditation was required in order to receive funds from Medicare/Medicaid, but they've since changed that. However, the Joint Commission is now itself deemed an accrediting agency of CMS, so its surveys serve the same purpose - passing means you can bill Medicare.

i am suspicious of this "simplifying" - "The Joint Commission" sounds like some sort of shadow organization that might do _anything_.

You're not alone. Pretty much everyone is suspicious of the Joint Commission. For instance, the GAO released a report saying they were suspicious of whether the Joint Commission's evaluation criteria uncovered serious deficiences (as defined by CMS, anyway).
