and Vox, you have my uttermost sympathy. i already hate people who drag themselves to work when they are sick, but sending their kids to school where they will feel really miserable and, of course, infect everyone else....that's really bad. NPR says it's not too late to get a flu shot, though! (and apparently the ones that cure flu once you have it work if you take them within 48 hrs. of being infected - and i would say you can nail down the time you were infected pretty well).

Since I am regularly around medically fragile people as a part of my job, I always get my flu shot. However, for reasons beyond my comprehension, my wife is opposed to the flu shot for herself and our kids. So they don't get the flu shot.

The kids seem to be doing better today, so hopefully we're over the worst of it.

@Shadowcell - sorry man, that's just a shitty situation. I don't think anyone could reasonably fault you for putting the cat down, especially given all you tried to do.

so sorry, Shadowcell - that's a lot for everyone to go through, and then have it come to nothing in the end.

I'm sorry about that, Shadowcell. Sad

I get my flu shot every year, both because I spend time around people with compromised immune systems, and because the local clinic offers them for free or $5.00 (I'm not sure which because I haven't received a bill.)

Ugh Shadowcell I'm sorry that's terrible. I mean, you did the right thing but what a shitty situation all around.

I just came in here to whine about how I freaked out and turned into that customer I really hate when I tried to figure out why my phone bill had changed to be $20 more dollars a month than before.

Turns out everything is mostly the same except they're adding up the numbers differently now. I was assured multiple times that my bill should be almost the same.

So why can't I stop freaking out?

Because - no offense - customer service people are often wrong? Also you're a generally anxious person like me.

Which brings me to... nightmares. I can't remember the last time I had them. Now I can't sleep through an entire night, and haven't in weeks. Today I woke at 3:50 yelling in my sleep. Two more weeks and the quarter is over, then I can go back to normal.

None taken, I bet over half my job is putting out other people's fires. Still, I think this one has a lot more to do with general anxiety. (And I do my fair share of fuck-ups, too, dear god)

Those nightmares sound pretty shitty though.

UGH I got in a fight on the internet and I SHOULD KNOW BETTER BY NOW.

But he was being gross and making super sexist implications and then somehow it was about philosophy and he was quoting John Lennon and oh my god I just want to set everything on fire now.

What could john lennon possibly have said that redeems sexist implications?

How to hit a woman and make the world worship you at the same time?

I always thought John Lennon wrote "Run For Your Life" because he wanted to warn women that men depicted in the song existed in real life. You know, all the references to evil and whatnot.

wait - what? they fired you? what the fuck???

although to be honest, it sounds like your workplace was a bit toxic - so even though suddenly finding yourself out on the street is stressful, i will hope that you find some place that treats you a lot better.

Well, if you want context. On reflection, I do see where he was coming from, but I still think an apology was in order. I'm dropping out of the conversation completely though.

1. 2. 3.

Worst apology ever. Also, I'll probably laugh forever and until the end of time that nobody once called me on the fact that my avatar was Captain Kirk giving the viewer bedroom eyes the entire time.

(Also omg DeD I'm so sorry. I'm with mouse, I really hope you can find a place less terrible and quickly.)
