There are definitely shortcomings to the Canadian system (like the whole Conservative party - badum-bum!), but I can't help but notice that you've legalized gay marriage*, are ranked considerably higher by Privacy International for privacy rights and are ranked 4th by the UN of the best countries to live in, compared to our 12th place. You came damn near decriminalizing marijuana, too, except for the election of the aforementioned Conservatives (and their used car salesman PM, Harper, who ironically enough took his seat from Preston Manning). If you can fight off Alberta's desire to privatize health care (look how well it works for us!) I'd say you aren't doing so bad.

* by the legislature, no less, plus most marriage benefits have been extended to same-sex couples for almost a decade - the only bill we've seen come up is a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage.

Heh. I suppose from that angle we're not doing so bad. Of course most of that was the work of Pierre Eliot Trudeau, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The current liberal party has none of Trudeau's intelligence and charm. Stephen Dion is just as much of a cardboard cutout as Harper is. And the NDP doesn't have a hope in hell of getting elected (probably for the best). While Americans are faced with candidates who have actual platforms and personalities, Canadian politics is bland (or, conversely, filled with governmental financial scandals). Harper won't even hug his kids in public, for crying out loud!

(I was also going to point out the Harper succeeded Stockwell Day, but then I remembered that Harper won a by-election in the riding that Manning occupied. It shames me that a non-Canadian knows more about Canadian politics than most Canadians.)

Actually, if that's from here, then that's just Iowa after the caucus.

Polls are closed. Clinton holds a narrow lead over Obama, but then again, only 10% are reporting.

And yet they are already saying McCain took the Republican side...

Maybe they just count the republican votes faster?

Plus, it fits what they thought beforehand.

Clinton's gap has doubled as the vote count has. We're at 22%.

According to Yahoo 36% reporting has Obama down only three percent, I don't think we'll be able to call this one.

Also, Romney's creeping up on McCain, only seven percent separating them now.

CNN has Clinton up by 2% and McCain up by 9%, with 41% and 40% of precints reporting.

Clinton's still up by 2%, with 88% reporting. The primary's been called for Clinton.

What the fuck happened?

One doesn't exist and the other wasn't helping (according to The Media)!
