So shallow. So frail. So... human. And is it really meaningful if you're tagging it on because you feel you're 'supposed to' (especially when you're just quoting the serenity prayer)?

Oh, and world peace.

Everybody knows that praying for your own benefit won't work Smile (if you believe in praying)

... and the same for prayers about world peace Razz

Actually on closer inspection, I'm not sure what she's actually praying for - is she wanting the money to buy the shoes? Is she wanting somebody to get the shoes for her? Or just she actually expect god to get the shoes for her?

Women, eh.

Eh? You must be an alcoholic to pray for serenity, courage and wisdom?

Sorry, but I never have. I hope you recovered successfully. I am familiar with the prayer, though; I just didn't lock it in to one particular context.

That's cool and all, but the Serenity Prayer was written by the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in the 1930s. Just because the AA use something it doesn't mean everyone that uses it has to be from AA.

Tat even misquoted the AA version.

I'll give you one anyway.
The prayer has been around for nearly a century, obviously, and was crafted by a well-known and respected Christian theologian, so it has made its way into popular culture. Bill Watterson parodied it in Calvin and Hobbes a while back. So it's not now, nor has it ever been, the exclusive property of AA, though they make much use of it.
I think Tat is contrasting Monique's search for contentment (panel 2) with her inherent shallowness and greed (panel 3) and then has her realize what she's doing and try to make up for it. Of course it doesn't work that way.
