"A watched pot" (kettle too, I suppose) "never boils".

he watched it.

it boiled when he blinked.

that's the joke.

it didn't hit him.

It's a comic you need to think about before you get the joke... That's refreshing to see. Just because you can't get an instant laugh from this comic doesn't mean it's not good Smile

Thanks for that. I wanted to post the exact same thing when I saw Set's comment. Seriously, I think it's good that Tat is doing these strips, because it is beginning to seem like all the idioms, phrases and proverbs of our language are being forgotten by or not taught to the younger generations, if these forums (and the reactions to the last few strips) are anything to go by. Seriously, I thought these were common as muck, do people really not get them?

do they really need to?

While the idea of patience conveyed by the pot-watching idiom is still universally valid, the metaphor of the non-boiled water is becoming less and less relevant. woo fancy words.

How many times, recently, has a regular person used an idiom more than, say, 200 years old? these things cycle about.

I didnt have to think about it. I got it instantly. I think most people did.

Hardly a gem, but nothing wrong with it either.

What made me laugh was the fact he's trying to disprove the saying - look at that intense stare in panel 2.
Then he blinks and bam the kettle boils! I've done this so many times myself Laughing
