really glad lily is OK (and you, too, sam).
i take it no one has taken credit yet? so it will be a while before we find out what, exactly, they thought they were going to accomplish. _________________ aka: neverscared!

There was a report that a suspect was in custody, but police have said that was false none have been apprehended yet. _________________ ...if a single leaf holds the eye, it will be as if the remaining leaves were not there.

why the fuck would you bomb a fucking marathon?
Something I wrote in response to inevtiable islamist speculations:
I still have quite vivid memories how everyone was so convinced that the Oslo bombing was islamists (indeed an islamist group even had time to claim the attack). So what seems to be circumstantial evidence, Tax Day/patriot day, the Sandy Hooks connection (as well as statistical likelihood) seem to point towards the far right. The only thing pointing towards islamists is that there supposedly was a Saudi national among the wounded. So you know...
Anyway this is pretty fucking horrible and well that's all I can say for now.
I'm very relieved to hear both Sam and lily are unharmed.

That's actually a pretty good statement. Good for the socialists.
For my part, I hope that, regardless of who is responsible, people remember that this is the first fatal terrorist attack in the US in well over a decade, and measure their response accordingly. I don't have much faith that that will happen. _________________ "Whatever afflicts thee, their asses I shall kick"

At this point I'm inclined to think it's a homegrown lunatic. No threats, no warning, no one claiming responsibility, just some crazy who decided to up and murder some people. _________________ The older I get, the more certain I become of one thing. Well, no one can be sure that it was a "terrorist" attack... Terrible as this event is, it's no more loathsome than all the shootings that have happened over the last couple of years. So I think you're right when you say you doubt people will respond accordingly... it's harder to cry about people dying when it happens all the time.

That video is really visceral. I am glad both Sam and Lily are alright, and saddened that so many were hurt.
Shortly afterwards at work we were put on a heightened watch for people coming in from Boston; anyone exhibiting suspicious behaviours, etc.
I hope those injured recover quickly and that there isn't a horrible reaction against various groups or peoples. _________________ Who needs a signature? |

I regret being able to say now that I can count myself as having experienced a terror attack. Maybe eventually I get to sleep, too.
There's a few good things to share. One's a quote by Mr. Rogers. One is a moving article by Patton Oswalt. One is the story of Carlos Arredondo. One is the extraordinary amount of help that was so immediately and unquestionably provided by scores of people on scene. There's a few bad things to share. One is Alex Jones calling this a false flag attack. One the New York Post being a pile of garbage that claimed that a Saudi national had been apprehended as a suspect — making sure that we didn't need even a nonfictional initial suspect to get right to our national pasttime of distrusting brown people as a gut response to a bombing (I'm sure glad we have banned user tittles here to take over Lisa's pathologically racist duty in that regard). One is that one of the dead is an eight year old boy. One is that he wasn't the only casualty. One is that there will be very many amputees. One is that we don't want or need to be more scared or paranoid or militant or vengeful or distrustful of already maligned groups, but that things like this can successfully push us in dark directions. |

I'm glad to hear there is so much cooperation going on, with lots of peopleoffering a place to stay for those that lost their hotels. _________________ ::lesser crisis mode::

it sounds like boston's reaction is "screw whoever did this, you aren't going to make us change who we are". i really hope they stick with it. it's what we should have done as a country after 9/11. _________________ aka: neverscared!
