what the hell is civitas? and why does it have so much personal data about other people?

it seems they've put up a mess of personal data for people arrested for protesting actions of the north carolina government - online (link is to the story, but they link to the civitas site.)

plus they posted pictures in their cute little "pick the protester" game.

seriously - what the fuck, north carolina?

It's an organization that's also linked to the current NC State Treasurer, and yes, it's really, REALLY farked up.

I'm proud as hell that one of the pastors at the church I grew up at are on that arrest list, though! I'm told they'd *both* been arrested, but I only see Jill's name-I suspect her husband may not have just been put up on there yet. They take social justice reaaallllyyy seriously.

They probably have access to the info because it IS all technically public, and age and such would be in the arrest info.

But yes, this is beyond despicable. Thankfully, all those arrested are clogging the CRAP out of the courts (NAACP is helping represent them, and coaching them on what to do. There are over *600* people who've been arrested and pleaded not guilty. There's no possible way to actually try them all. ... Plus what they are doing is, I'm pretty sure, actually enshrined in the NC state constitution...)

Unsurprisingly, Apple has been found guilty of conspiring to raise e-book prices.

Johnny Depp wants to buy Wounded Knee and return it to the Lakota.

This man just earned a hell of a lot of my respect.

Is that a good or bad percentage?

There's been a huge spike in crime here lately.

There is currently a gang war going on between two large gangs and and up and coming gang (I think, they are at least smaller which means they need to be MORE violent). There's been public rallies against the violence. However, most of these shootings are happening in broad daylight, crowded areas, and nobody sees anything. I know there's a safety issue involved, but if you want to rally against the violence, you have to be willing to speak up.

There was a report a few weeks ago about the Baltimore City jail basically being run by one of the gang leaders that is an inmate there. He had 9 of the guards as his personal "hos" including the 5 that were carrying or had his children already. That was a real low blow to the city.

as someone more elegant than I put it: "I feel like this is just a horrible game of "penis" where they're trying to outdo each other for most public and blatant act of violence."

OR as my wife would say "They're just a bunch of little boys having a dick measuring contest."

Turkey decided to one-up the US on science denial. Creationist sentiments stopped government funding in various areas of education that dealt with evolution, because it's "a controversial subject" that is difficult to regard as "as an activity on which a consensus can be reached" because "evolution is still a debated issue," apparently.

The state of political discourse in America... trolling the other party by passing ordinances. Or by just being dicks:
Quote:
Earlier this week, numerous reports -- including one from CNN affiliate KSWB -- said that Filner's fiancee, Bronwyn Ingram, had called off their engagement for unspecified reasons.

The Republican Party of San Diego cheered Ingram's move on its Facebook page, saying "she deserves better."

The names of the pilots in the Asiana crash.

That's some great fact checking Lou.
