http://www.npr.org/2014/08/21/342207432/who-are-the-protesters-getting-arrested-in-ferguson
Quote:
Since the protests erupted, people in Ferguson have insisted that the troublemakers are not from this community. Capt. Ron Johnson, the highway patrolman in charge of security here, said as much earlier this week.
"I am not going to let the criminals that have come out here from across this country and don't live in this community define this neighborhood and define what we're going to do to make it right," Johnson says.
In fact, of the 51 people who were arrested Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, only one person was from Ferguson. The rest were from surrounding towns and faraway cities such as Des Moines, Iowa, Chicago and New York.

A church has been storing human bones in Ikea bags, because they had dug them up but never gotten around to replanting them:

Replanting them? Like tulips? Can you dig them up and then store them in a garage and then later put them back in and new skeletons sprout up?

Or maybe they grow into corpses. Like corpse seeds.

On the Ukranian day of independence, rebels in Donetsk paraded captured soldiers through the streets for a vicious crowd. You know, to show off how well the prisoners are being treated.

Also the Ukranians have captured some legit Russian paratroopers who were inside their borders.

holy crap.
Quote:
LONDON — A report released on Tuesday on accusations of widespread sexual abuse in the northern England city of Rotherham found that about 1,400 minors — some as young as 11 years old — were beaten, raped and trafficked from 1997 to 2013 as the police and local authorities ignored a series of red flags.

one would have thought it was impossible for something of this extent to happen in a place like england in this day and age.

apparently, one would be wrong.

It can happen anywhere. It's good to assume that this stuff festers everywhere.

I blame the bureaucrats. No one wants 'problems' under their jurisdiction, it makes them look like less effective managers and supervisors, if not out right incompetent at their job. These kinds of systems tend to wind up encouraging people to 'sweep things under the rug'.

In this case, what they were sweeping under the rug turned out to be the equivalent of black mold, carpenter ants, and termites.

Perhaps it's time for The Wayne Foundation to go international.

Sadly, in addition to some people believing that previous reports (I've read "two" and "three," so I'm not sure on the exact number) with the same conclusion were simple exaggerations, members of the Council also feared being labelled as racist because those reports found many of the perpetrators were Asian men. So, they just ignored the child abuse. One quote is literally that "gang rape is part of growing up in Rotherham." Then there's the line that investigators viewed the victims "with contempt." I just... yeah, I don't know.

I really have no words for this.

Except to say I would not blame the bureaucrats alone. I do not blame the victims, but everyone else who was involved, passively or actively, who knew what was going on and did not report it.
