Not saying it doesn't exist. =P Well first, I was specifically talking about Westboro Baptist Church there.

But second, we've had very few things like that post year 2000. Plus, without actually quoting statistics, which I will if we need, they've seen a lot more than "at least eight people" killed over there. Not saying we don't have problems, but we don't have a group so largely organized. Just random crazies in small sects at best. Not like when the KKK was actually a big deal.

Again. There are still people that WOULD do that, but our society sees that so negatively, they can't get away with it. They can't organize. Where as back even 60 years, the KKK lived among people that were not completely willing to fight against them.

Taliban claims that their shooting of outspoken, teenage proponent of women's education was justified.

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents said on Tuesday that the Pakistani schoolgirl its gunmen shot in the head deserved to die because she had spoken out against the group and praised U.S. President Barack Obama.

Malala Yousufzai, 14, was flown to Britain on Monday, where doctors said she has every chance of making a "good recovery".
The attack on Yousufzai, who had been advocating education for girls, drew widespread condemnation.

Pakistani surgeons removed a bullet from near her spinal cord during a three-hour operation the day after the attack last week, but she now needs intensive specialist follow-up care.

Authorities have said they have made several arrests in connection with the case but have given no details.

Pakistan's Taliban described Yousufzai as a "spy of the West".
"For this espionage, infidels gave her awards and rewards. And Islam orders killing of those who are spying for enemies," the group said in a statement.
"She used to propagate against mujahideen (holy warriors) to defame (the) Taliban. The Quran says that people propagating against Islam and Islamic forces would be killed.
"We targeted her because she would speak against the Taliban while sitting with shameless strangers and idealized the biggest enemy of Islam, Barack Obama."

Yousufzai, a cheerful schoolgirl who had wanted to become a doctor before agreeing to her father's wishes that she strive to be a politician, has become a potent symbol of resistance against the Taliban's efforts to deprive girls of an education.

Pakistanis have held some protests and candlelight vigils but most government officials have refrained from publicly criticising the Taliban by name over the attack, in what critics say is a lack of resolve against extremism.

"We did not attack her for raising voice for education. We targeted her for opposing mujahideen and their war," said the Taliban. "Shariah (Islamic law) says that even a child can be killed if he is propagating against Islam."

Speaking of idiots, GAP needs a history lesson, since they couldn't understand why this t-shirt is offensive:

I realize that I have a better understanding of US history than most people in this country, but man I cannot believe this is actually true.

Edit: by this country I of course mean The Netherlands.

Quote:
Adding fuel to the fire, the shirt's designer, Mark McNairy, tweeted "MANIFEST DESTINY. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST" last Friday in response to customer complaints. He quickly deleted his tweet, but not before a screengrab of it was widely circulated, and then he followed up—three days later—with an all-caps semi-apology.

"Unfortunately, the meaning of my 'Manifest Destiny' T shirt has been misconstrued and the sentiment behind it grossly misunderstood," McNairy posted on Twitter on Tuesday, blatantly disregarding his "survival of the fittest" quip. "I first learned of Manifest Destiny in American History in Junior High School. To me it has always meant that one could set goals, work hard, and achieve their dreams. Having the opportunity to design for the Gap was the realization of one of my dreams. This phrase and they way I used it was in no way meant to be offensive or hurtful, and I apologize to those who might have interpreted it in that manner."

Dear Mark McNairy: The term "Manifest Destiny" does not mean what you think it means. (Also? Your junior high school history teacher is weeping right now.)

yes, you can set your goals, work hard, and achieve your dreams! like us! we set our goal (exterminate the Indians and take their land), worked hard (the Indian Wars), and pretty much achieved our dreams (we killed most of them, took all their land, and exiled the survivors to shitty reservations carved out of their homes)

hooray for Manifest Destiny!

So what's a pair of smart, criminal siblings to do when caught trying to steal a TV from a bar bathroom? Pretend they were just trying to have sex.

Sometimes you just have to slam you head into a wall a couple of times. The world makes a lot more sense that way.

"When officers arrived, the pair reportedly claimed that they weren't stealing a TV, they were having sex,"
Two activities easily confused with each other believe you me. I can't explain the number of times, after a bit of a night on the town, I wake up the next day in my own apartment but with a new tv.
