Apparently the story was started by animal roghts activists concerned about the well being of wasps. I don't know why they thought a stpry about a man getting his genitals sting horrifically over and over and over....would make anyone think about the well-being of wasps rather than of their crotch.

Strange indeed. If anything the story reminds me that wasps are nasty creatures and I don't want them anywhere near me. Especially nowhere near my crotch.

The local honey bees have found a way to combat giant hornets. They bunch up on them, form a tight ball and vibrate their bodies to create heat. The honey bees can withstand a higher temperature and they cook the hornet to death.

It could be worse, it could be Horseflies.

Stinging < Cutting you open and sucking your blood

Or these giant fucking beetles we get in the spring that sound like a helicopter when they fly and have a tendency to fly right at you and your hair when you enter the vicinity. Oh, and they hiss too just to make it more pleasant.

Fucking nature.

Horseflys are such assholes too, once they bite you they then STALK you and repeatedly bite you over and over again until you can either kill the fucker or somehow get away from it.

If you're stuck outside for the whole day you basically spend it hearing buzzing and getting progressively more paranoid. And itchy.

I've been attacked by horseflies in Poland. I have a paralyzing fear for them now.

The worst is when you're out swimming, because then there is more exposed skin, and you're wet and probably radiating out tasty salty meat smells. Sad I don't think I had to deal with them more than once or twice, but the memory is hideously fresh.

Also, thanks to the pictures accompanying news of the recent cicada outbreak, I now know what some super scary mystery bugs were that I encountered as a child. I thought I imagined them, but then there it was - a picture of old nightmare fuel. Glad to know now they are harmless, wish someone had told me that as a tiny freaked out child.

How the "1 percent does Disney"
Quote:
Instead, according to the New York Post, the moms pay $130 an hour to hire a disabled, “black-market” guide, who uses her position—sitting in a motorized scooter—to help entitled families gain special access to rides.

...

“It’s insider knowledge that very few have and share carefully,” Martin told the Post. “So when you’re doing it, you’re affirming that you are one of the privileged insiders who has and shares this information.” You’re also getting a good deal, as VIP tours offered by Disney, which include speed passes, start at $315 an hour.

“My daughter waited one minute to get on ‘It’s a Small World’ — the other kids had to wait 2 1/2 hours,” one unnamed mom bragged to the Post. “You can’t go to Disney without a tour concierge...This is how the 1 percent does Disney.”

...

Still, the Post also reported that urban mothers have asked Divamoms website operator Lyss Stern how they might make their children appear handicapped in order to gain special disabled access. “I never understood how parents could have a clear conscience doing this,” Stern told the Post. And one parent, Matt Montesi of Atlanta, added that, after his 11-year-old with ADHD was granted a three-day Disney handicapped pass with a doctor's note, he was tempted to sell it on Craigslist. "People will pay bucks to circumvent the lines," he noted.
