Children Starving in Africa is one of the worst arguments against eating a lot that I've ever heard.

Even worse when its used against someone that wastes food by not say... finishing all their dinner. I had some bitch teacher use that on me in junior high once when I didn't finish all of my lunch, I was like "So wrap that up and send it on over."

Yea, I can remember my parents telling me that. I once tried to put spaghetti in a envelope, but that wasn't good either.

I have heard the African children argument before. It doesn't make sense. Not all African children are starved or have enlarged livers. In fact, a considerable part of African children are now plagued with AIDS. It would be a better idea to lift all export sanctions and intellectual patents on AIDS-medication.

Plus, most aid sent from the West doesn't even arrive there. This is especially the case in war zones. And when free food arrives there, it's competing with local farmers who are getting zip for their crops. Thus creating more hunger. They're already starving because the EU dumps surplus food on the African continent.

But hey, I liked today's comic.

Sorry Razz It's stronger as myself.

Its sounds like work by people like this are the key to helping to alleviate famine in places like Africa.

As to the AIDS argument.. I once heard that the problem wasn't necessarily getting drugs to Africa.. but of the drug companies worrying over the effectiveness of the cost of it.. when aids prescriptions are like cocktails with very precise time requirements to take them each day. That even if the drugs were brought.. they'd be worrying about a population that isn't entirely reliant on clocks and time the way countries like America are.

But besides those two things, "drink your beer.. there are sober people in Zimbabwe".

The only effective argument I've ever heard is that if you eat too fast you'll get hiccups.

Which as is as I know is true.

I never got the "kids in Africa" comment. Just "don't waste food, we paid for it"
And for eating too quickly: "slow down and savor it" or "you're going to choke if you keep eating like that"

Thanks for going out of your way to belittle a joke I made when I was 14.

"don't waste food" is a more sensible argument than citing all the kids starving in europe, asia, africa, etc. (depending on which decade you grew up in - those starving kids sure get around!)

If you eat too fast, you won't feel full until after you've already eaten too much?

I read somewhere once that you don't start to feel full until about 12 minutes after eating. So I guess if you eat too fast, you'd probably eat more than you really need and end up feeling sick or bloated after a while. Or throw up. Who knows.
