World Cup scandals, aside from the slaughter of innocents in the favelas, include the $206 million on a stadium for five games and then no use after . . . also engineers say stadiums may collapse.

The very idea of having the world cup in Qatar boggles the mind.

Though that may just be the heatstroke.

i sawed that. the extent of my feelings on the matter are:

- i want a ghana jersey they were coo
- that one newbie who sportsed the last point was in sheer absolute shock at how he had just sportsed the finest sports of his life so far

My team name at trivia last night was "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!" and the lady who runs it did an excellent job of saying it really long and loud every time, like she was a radio announcer. Good times.

gods damn that last goal! what, like 10 seconds or something left to play?

edit: I think those 10 minutes were my first time ever watching professional soccer/football/ftbol and I already understand the propensity for fans to riot.

yeah, sitting around for two hours in unbearable tension will do that to you

would that all sporting events were like college football powerhouses padding their schedules with FCS cupcakes! nobody riots when Alabama scores ten touchdowns against Middle-Tennessee Community College or whatever

A) Soccer players are huge fakers. "Oh, the wind from you kicking the ball has jostled my shoelaces, I shall now fall to the ground and clutch my ankle as though the bones were sticking out and fire ants were nesting in my tibia."
B) The US played like crap. They got like three times as many shots on Portugal in the first half and got one freaking point. They could barely pass. Whoever the guy was making their corner kicks needs to dial it down a notch.
C) That last goal by Portugal never should have happened. Every guy on defense should feel bad because they are bad.

that's how it was against Ghana too. the US team's offense is just bad all around, or apparently unaware that an important part of scoring goals and winning games is not giving the ball back to the other team as soon as you gain possession of it.
