I have Netflix again, so it's time to catch up on a lot of crappy movies.

Currently watching: Mulan II. I've just barely started and already it's bad. I can't tell if it's worse than I thought - and I'd already heard some of the music, so I knew what to expect there.

Holy shit, it keeps getting worse. Sad There are apparently some very grating songs I hadn't heard and steeled myself against.

Yeeeeah that was not one of Disney's best. The whole "ALL THE DUDES WIN A GIRL" thing kinda grated at me like. A lot.

There's that, which I expected. But there's also this whole bizarre narrative about how Mulan doesn't understand arranged marriages and is so very sad about them - and how she could never never never undertake one. But that was like...half of the first film, that she tried to be accepted in one and felt terrible because she couldn't be. The lack of internal consistency here is just mindboggling.

Someone was clearly working overtime to work in a 'men hate asking for directions' joke here. For things like this, I always imagine a bigot in a corner, just vibrating through every meeting, waiting for a chance to throw out ye olde hackneye stereotypes. Like everyone is passing out good or mediocre ideas, and this person just randomly shouts, "PUT THE WHITE PEOPLE IN BLACK FACE!" and other tasty bigotry.

...wow, and there's 40 minutes left.

Edit: Huh. Looks like the bigot in the corner got them to put chopsticks music in and have the voice actresses do a mocking stereotypical chinese accent.

I finished the film. They used the phrase 'dragon lady' and 'dumpling eater' and there were constant references to Chinese-American food dishes.

I'll be spending the rest of my night wondering what the hell I just watched, and why.

Just watched Star Trek: Into Derpness

I didn't pay to watch it and I still want a refund.

The next Star Wars movie is going to suck.

although i do get some satisfaction from the thought that it will destroy the carefully crafted canon of the Star Wars Expanded Universe

I saw it for the second time this weekend. It and The Avengers are the only movies I can remember paying to see in theaters twice. It's worth seeing on the big screen. I'd skip the 3D, but then, I don't like 3D. Of the films I've seen in 3D, this probably made the best use of it (I thought it added more than the 3D in Avatar, which is the only other film I've seen in 3D where I didn't think the 3D actually detracted from the viewing experience).

So... there's going to be a Superman & Batman movie... with the same schmuck who played Superman the last time (they're turning into Doctor Who) and no one knows who will play Batman... because presumably Bale was like, "Yeah, this is going to suck."

As Iconic as he is...superman is really the lamest superhero ever.

Saw Pacific Rim yesterday. We didn't do 3D, but we really enjoyed it. Smile

Yeah, he's just too powerful, which is why they invented kryptonite. But Batman has fought him like three times, but always with characters that presumably they're not going to cast just for this movie (like the Green Arrow).
