Pacific rim..
Effects - excellent
Acting and directing - horrendous, the dialogues grated my ears. I would like to see a fan's cut of this without any dialogue. It reminded me of acting in 90s games, like C&C:Red Alert...today's games have better acting. Speaking of 90s games and acting, wing commander had better acting.

Charlie Day outshone everyone even Ron Perlman, 'nuff said.

We saw PR yesterday (my idea).

I went into it expecting a decent adrenaline movie, or "action-paction", as Mz. Love likes to call them. That about describes it. There were several highly predictable plot elements, FEPOs (For Entertainment Purposes Only), and not a lot of stellar acting. However, I wasn't expecting the next Forrest Gump or ET. I went to see mecha warriors fight kaiju on the big screen, and that's what I got. TBH, though, I think the two best fight scenes were between humans that weren't in mecha suits.

I was told the dialogue and such was going to be campy going in. It's what I expected anyways. I mean it's sposed to be poking at Evangelion and almost any other Japanese mech show you can think of.

It's definitely a movie that you get more out of the more immersed you are in various parts of nerd culture. The nods to Portal and Starcraft 2 had me grinning in the first few minutes.

I was expecting a trashy movie...
but 7.8 imdb score threw me off.

I thought hey it might be actually good, I don't know how can anyone give the movie anything about 6.5/10 (at best).

The non action parts aren't ironic or paying homage to anything they are just bad. I can't be convinced of anything else. Starship troopers, Expandbles did the fun cheesy acting bit much much much better than this movie did.

This happens too often I seem to miss the point of these overly formulaic movies, I can't enjoy them. The last Dredd did it best (I really liked that movie), it had great action and good cinematography without any attempt at being....uh...emotional and deep.

it's alright if you want a sugary feel-good movie in which Progress triumphs over Racism and everyone acts like they are acutely aware of the fact that they're in a biopic

Oblivion

John Dies At The End

These are things that were good

G.I. Joe Retaliation

Stealing Harvard

These are things that are bad (or stupid)

The Call

Cloud Atlas

these are things that didn't really make an emotional impact on me

I watched The Dark Knight Returns parts 1 and 2(the animated ones, in case anyone thinks I'm talking about the Christopher Nolan movies).

As a piece of animation it is incredible and faithful to the source material. It also reaffirms how little I like Frank Miller.
