Surely Agamemnon and I cannot be the only fans of American Football on this board. If anyone feels like making predictions or insulting other teams, this is a good thread for it.

I'm starting this because my beloved Green Bay Packers will kickoff their first Preseason game in just over 30 minutes. The Packers sucked it up last year, but after a very solid offseason I'd wager they'll do better this year. In particular, I think they'll beat the much-hated Minnesota Vikings (That's right Ags, I'm calling your team out).

Anybody else ready for some football?

My experiences with American football always ended at halftime, when they let the band leave. We all rushed home to warm up and do something more fun.

English football is what North American's call soccer, right?

I've never heard it called "English Football" before, but you are correct. What is called "soccer" in the states is "football" pretty much everwhere else.

The fact that the sport is called 'football' is almost as bad as the fact that up here in canada, we have a football league too, and for a long time, with only eight teams, there were two that were called the 'Roughriders'.

The sexual connotations are pretty hilarious though.

Bengals in the AFC, and overall this is my fave team.

And this year, my NFC loyalty is somewhat split. Traditionally, I'm a 49ers fan(ever since the 5th grade, when they beat the everloving shit out of the Broncos in the Super Bowl), so I want to see them make a comeback to contention. But it's been really hard to root for their total incompetence on the field these last couple of years.

So ...

I would like the 49ers to do well, and I see good things for the Alex Smith/Vernon Davis/Frank Gore core.

I would also really like to the see the Cardinals do well. Their new stadium is awesome, and it seems they're making a new commitment to spend $ on the team to bring in top-shelf free agents and really invest in winning. If Warner stays healthy, he should have a great year with that pair of receivers and the upgrade in the running game with Edgerrin James.

And don't even start with the crap that I'm not a true fan because don't have a "true" favorite pro team. That's just silly, and you'd be wasting your breath.

BUT, at the college level, I am a die-hard West Virginia University Mountaineers fan. That's where I went to college. Go WVU!

We should have a a great year and a legitimate shot at the national title. We've got one of the best 1-2 combos in the backfield in QB Pat White and RB Steve Slaton. In case you haven't heard of them, check replays of the Sugar Bowl last year to see how devastating these 2 guys can be. We've also got a favorable schedule, plenty of games on TV, and a high enough pre-season ranking that when the BCS ranking start coming out, we should have a good chance of making it to the title game.
