For people who think dinosaurs and asteroids are cool, I present: Seeding Life on the Moons of the Outer Planets via Lithopanspermia

Quote:
Material from the surface of a planet can be ejected into space by a large impact, and could carry primitive life forms with it. We performed n-body simulations of such ejecta to determine where in the Solar System rock from Earth and Mars may end up. We find that, in addition to frequent transfer of material among the terrestrial planets, transfer of material from Earth and Mars to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn is also possible, but rare.

The impactor that created the Chicxulub crater and caused mass extinction on Earth ~ 65 Myr ago (Schulte et al. 2010) likely launched about 7 × 1011 kg of rock into orbit, of which about 20,000 kg (~7 × 10-10 of the impactor's mass) could have reached Europa. For a single impact of this size, the probability of a fragment > 3 m reaching Europa is 0.6

So life from the time of the dinosaurs (probably just extremophile bacteria) may have been transferred to the moons of the Outer Planets.

If any bacteria made it, I wonder what they've been up to...

Found this site called Houseparty that offers a date to have a party and to send kits for that party for free - all sponsored, of course.

So I was looking around and discovered that there is a Benefiber party kit.

http://www.houseparty.com/event/benefiber

My mind boggles as I try to think what kind of things people would do at a benefiber party.

So this app is like my new favorite thing. It's like a super simplified version of Poser and is completely fantastic for art purposes. I know there are some super talented artists around here that could get some use out of it.

I wish this had a link to the thesis, this actually sounds really interesting.

Which makes my dilemma of sort of not having a proper name extremely annoying and a little depressing.
