I'm really disappointed in california right now.

people forget we gave this country St. Ronnie of Reagan; there are some deep pockets of serious conservatism. bakersfield is a seriously redneck sort of place.

the Brookings Institute and others put together this neat game, you pick tax and spending policies, try to pursue both your top goals (e.g. fighting climate change, reducing inequality, etc) while reducing the debt over the long term

i'm relatively pleased with mine, although it involves enough tax increases that i imagine i'd need dictatorial power to implement it

"...Mark Zuckerberg and 6.8k others liked this"

I know he's a Facebook employee, but that's still kind of weird to see xD

Also, holy crap, that piece was fascinating. Brains are weird.

I know quite a lot about brains (I have a degree in cognitive science (from looooong ago)) but I never see this stuff coming. It always makes me wonder what I can/can't do what almost everyone else can't/can.

Some people have four types of cones, unlike us lesser mortals, who only have three. They see a whole class of colours we can't even conceive of. Jealous. (This is called tetrachromacy.)

Creationists who reject evolution as the source of diversity in modern biology have to get pretty schizophrenic when they try to show how their idea works in the real world.

Here's a blog post looking at the problem of dinosaurs with feathers and how Creationists (don't) deal with them.
