Update

My mom is home, still no better or no worse I suppose. She's the same. I've had to stay home for the past couple days to try and take care of her cause my dad doesn't fully grasp the situation yet. I am not sure if she's supposed to get better or if this is just it, I'm hoping the former though.

She's still in a lot of pain. But hopefully when she gets off the prednisone, the swelling and what not will go down, and we can get her stablized enough to have the surgery on her back.

In the meantime I have quit smoking. In fact, I quit the day she came home. It's been over 72 hours since I've had a cigarette. But I figured now was as good of a time as any to quit. Looking at what smoking has done for my mom, is a motivator. But taking care of my mom like she's a sick elderly person is also stressful. So I pick the worst times to tackle big projects. But so far so good.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for your kind thoughts, words, hugs (especially jinx haha), and everything nice that you've said and done. I really appreciate it, more than you know. It cheers me up and makes me smile. Thank you.

Love,
Jen

Sorry I wasn't there to give good wishes the first time you posted. Much luck to you and your mom.

thanks so much for the update.

congratulations on quitting smoking. you still have some hard work ahead of you, but (as you clearly realize) you will be _much_ better off in the long run. i don't know if there is any sort of helpline or support group where you are, and my experience with quitting is on the population rather than the individual level - but if there is anything i can do to help, please let me know.

and i hope your mother will soon feel better. keep up hope, and help her keep up hope - whatever the prognosis, a will to live can have tremendous effects.

take care of yourself -

Crikey. I work (a tiny bit) involving COPD work. It's a very high cause of mortality in the city I live in. Very hard to deal with - I'm really sorry it's happened to your family. Good job quitting smoking.

Good luck to you and your family. I know I don't have to tell you to be strong; you are strong. Just remember that your friends are there for you if you need.

Good luck with the smoking - it may be difficult to handle while taking care of your mom, but I'm sure seeing her daughter living well will help raise her spirits. You're doing well.

Still thinking of you both. Good luck to your mother in her preparation for surgery.
