It can not be any worse than season four of Battlestar Galactica.

I thought this thread was about The Hills when I saw it.

Now that's a terrible show.

Let's give the cast of The Hills a ship and tell them to go fight Japanese whalers.

I watched about 5 minutes of this show last night.

Some guy was talking about how he never learned to read ice maps and satellite imagery. He was the ships navigator.

The captain oddly enough looks like my friend if he had a beard and white hair, it was creepy, like looking into the future.

I felt clubbed over the head with metaphor, like one of those cute little harp seals.

But the people of whale wars needed in on the subterfuge as well.

Looks like the basis for a Mastodon album cover.

you guys (and the lack of anything else on the tube) made me sit through this for an entire hour. actually, the guy was the first mate. he had never learned about that ice map stuff, and he didn't understand how it was done, and it never looked like the way things looked when he looked out the window, so he just dismissed it. as a result, they missed a passage out of the ice when he was on watch, and had to spend like another day (and a helicopter flight) to find it.

later, he dismissed the notion of going through a checklist before they launched a zodiac because in his many, many years at sea he had never, ever forgotten to check the gas or this or that or the other, so he didn't need no stinkin' checklist. as best as i could tell, he was not among the (apparently pretty inexperienced) crew who were racing off in the zodiac. (the captain and every other officer loved them, and so the first mate was overruled in a meeting he didn't bother to attend. this was after they had to abort a boat launching, because they suddenly noticed mid-launch that the boat's radar wasn't working, and no one had bothered to report that before.)

if i recall correctly, this is the guy the captain referred to as the best first mate he's had, ever, and the guy he would absolutely trust his life to, in that article.

the show ended when they finally found a japanese whaling ship (primarily because it was using a searchlight to try to spot a crewman who had gone overboard), and the captain was deciding whether or not to attack this ship...while it searched for the body of the crewman.

you guys owe me an hour of my life, and a full refund on all those innocent electrons who sacrificed themselves to bring this drivel to my television set.
