he missed the straight talk express.

mentioned individual and small business and insurance company participation in the solution, in amongst the admissions of tax givebacks and levels of 95% of small businesses that won't meet the trigger levels and talking about co-ops that are shopping malls but have the tremendous buying power of new markets as if they were a market force because they all have choices...

it was a swap meet where he was the only one selling.

i didn't notice leadership.

For those who missed it; here's the speech in full. Plus commentary by TYT, whom I quite like for American political news. They're pretty unbiased; they bitch about the Republicans and Obama when each messes up.

I liked the speech... I mean, it's called the bully pulpit for a reason. It's not a Q&A. Obama's supposed to be up there convincing you he's right. I thought he touched on a lot of things we've all been talking about - like how almost everyone is one bad injury or illness away from bankruptcy. I was glad to see some more detail. It's obvious his choice of topics has been influenced by the massive lead Republicans have on this debate - which is something he's got no one to blame for but himself. This type of speech ought to have been made early and often, by as many senators and representatives as they could strong arm into it. In any event, I liked the speech overall.

The interesting thing about Wilson's outburst is less that it happened, but how the GOP has responded. "Our nation's president deserves to be treated with respect," says Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC. Really? Where the fuck have you been? Where was that attitude when they started repeating the birther lies? Why hasn't anyone chastised Jean Schmidt? Or all the other birthers? Where was this attitude of respect when senators and representatives have gone on with Hannity or Beck or the myriad local radio shows? I don't care if they call him socialist, or attack his ideology, but if Wilson deserves to be rebuked then so do all of the Congress people who have furthered outright lies - citizenship, death panels, religion, etc.

Politicking aside, that Republican fella do need a stronger anxiolytic.

That guy that gave the Republican answer was a douche. TBH.

He's kind of a nobody in the House, has only served since 2004. I guess they wanted a doctor, but he's hardly the only one. I'm kind of curious how he got picked - normally it would be a better known person.

Maybe they figured that the person who made the speech would get a lot of flak and decided to sacrifice him, so to speak. And if he happened to do it right and gets positive attention, all the better.

Make Joe Wilson pay.

And by pay, I mean beat his sorry ass at the polls and send him to the private sector. That is the only way to change the political discourse in America today. Because as long as louts like Joe Wilson can spout off and call the president a liar and get rewarded with re-election, then louts will continue to spout off. And we will continue to claw out way to the very bottom of the political swamp.

...

Iím a Republican, but Iíd rather have a Democrat in Congress who I may disagree with but who has some fundamental character and decency which Wilson clearly lacks. So, today Iím volunteering for Republicans for Rob Miller, Wilsonís opponent, a former Marine and Iraq veteran, and am sending him a $1,000 check. And you can do the same by going here.

Thereís only one way to weíre going to change our political climate and ensure we establish some respect in our discourse. And that is to show there is a real price to pay for being a disrespectful partisan idiot.

Send Joe Wilson home.
