Frankly, I am glad to see some, slightly, diplomatic behavior from Mr. Dawkins. The best part though is he managed to do it without backing down the slightest bit from any of his positions. He simply didn't bring up a lot of what he took issue with in this interview.
His new book "The Greatest Show on Earth" has already been criticized as a failed attempt to reach out to people who would deny evolution. The language used in the book is pure Dawkin's in it's disdain for the willfully ignorant. Not exactly likely to capture the imagination fo your average fundamentalist. In his defense, I don't think all the diplomacy in the world could change their positions. So far all that has managed is to drive them to use underhanded tactics like name changes (Creationism to ID to whatever the hell they come up with next), media campaigns, and many religiously themed events and exhibits with psuedo-scientific polish (like the creationists natural history museum featuring people living side by side with dinosaurs... SIGH!). _________________ "Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid" ~ SGT John Stryker from "Sands of Iwo Jima". |
