| It's funny how I never see this stuff when I check the strip until after you guys have the trouble. Y'all should try reading in the morning I guess. |

Both "Sinfest Nights 4" and "Dream Life" appear to be corrupted for me, on two different broadband connections (home and work) from two different providers (Comcast and AT&T) and on two different browsers (Opera and Firefox). I've tried emptying the browser cache and reloading, too - no improvement.
"Dream Life" loaded OK for me last week.
Oddly enough, both strips load fine when I go to sinfest.net through a web proxy.
And it's a shame. I'm no artist or art critic, but I think that last panel of "Dream Life" may be one of the all-time best drawings in the whole history of the strip, and a damn fine drawing by any lights. It's definitely my personal favorite. |

| I just tried with IE (which I never ever use) and it looks the same (corrupt) as in Opera and FF. There is a glitch in the matrix. |

I took a class once where we did a couple weeks on steganography and I have too much time on my hands, so I assumed there was a hidden message in the strip and tried to figure it out.
strings on cygwin didn't show anything ascii based, so I tried paint and the Python Imaging Library.
Creating 2 images based on even/odd lines created one uncorrupted image and a second one where there were 3 or 4 corrupted lines, then the bottom of the strip shifted about 500 pixels right.
I noticed that the strip width was 713 pixels, and that previous strips were even at either 680 or 700, so I tried moving the first 713 pixels starting from pixel 326x201, where the corruption seems to start, into 23x31 rectangles, but that was also a bust, plus that wouldn't account for the rest of the scrambled data.
Anyone have any better ideas?[/img]

[random geeky info]
Both are GIF image data, version 89a, 713 x 250.
MD5 checksum of both images is different (83f3adf81199209d3247b4f2e79518ce versus 198bdb4accd7629ecd3fd98c4068b40a). But I doubt there's any hidden info. IMHO, Tat re-created the image with some small change, and whatever software he uses screwed up the GIF. File is (internally) well different, which can be caused by any minor change in the image, as GIF uses LZW compression, and compressed data is heavily affected (and LZW specially) by small changes in the original data.
So either Tat re-uploaded a new image which is screwed up, or (less likely), his webserver is screwing up binary data being uploaded. That would be VERY unlikely, so I'm going to go with the option of telling Mr Ishida 2 things:
a) Your image editing software sucks. No offence meant, but the second GIF is clearly corrupt.
b) Use PNG instead of GIF. LZW is a propertary algorithm, while PNG uses an open algorithm, has better compression rates, and was specifically designed to take over GIF place. Apps able to write gif files have to pay Unisys royalties for the use of this format, while png support is free. This makes apps have better support for png, even if it's a fairly new format (10 years old anyway). Note: AFAIK GIF/LZW patents have expired, but I'm not sure right now.
