I secretly wanted Obama to go into the White House on Inauguration Day, look around, and go "HEY, WHERE ALL THE WHITE WOMEN AT?" |

So the teabaggers are having their first big convention this week. Lots of folks have been speculating about the motives of the event organizers, and I think the purpose is becoming clear: this guy is turning the flawed logic and blind outrage of the tea party crowd against them for fun and profit.
| ABC wrote: | In a mid-January post on his blog, "Riehl World View," Riehl questioned whether Phillips "wants to be a tea party millionaire."
...
Convention spokesman Mark Skoda acknowledged Wednesday that Phillips and his wife, Sherry Phillips, founders of the for-profit Tea Party Nation Inc., will "make a few bucks" on the event. But Skoda questioned why that should be anyone's concern.
"Have we gone so far in the Obama-socialist view of the nation that 'profit' is a bad word -- in particular, if we're using it to advance the conservative cause?" Skoda asked. |
Can't argue with that! Here's my $549 for admission! Please drop that tea bag right on my forehead!
Money made, let's see what sort of political philosophy is popular with the convention goers...
| ABC paraphrasing Tom Tancredo wrote: | | Tancredo fired away at "the cult of multiculturalism" and claimed President Obama was elected because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country," |
That apparently got the crowd going. NPR had a bit of coverage this morning:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123410818
I don't have a transcript of that, but the guy at the end got a big cheer when he claimed that the country should be taken back by christians because the union was founded by christians.
To recap:
Bunch of suckers
Jim Crow laws will save America
let's take OUR country back for JEEASUS!!1!

| I'm all for this Cult of Monoculturalism they're advocating. That way when the next big blight comes along, none of them will be immune. |

i think i figured what the tea party movement was all about when i was first referred to the tea party emporium (although i must admit, as a tea lover, i was tempted....until i saw the prices).
i'm not sure what to make of the convention - as i understand it, there's one session that will compare obama to marxist south american dictators.
these people are rapidly approaching certifiably insane (as in, completely out of touch with reality) _________________ aka: neverscared! |

Was this convention seriously put together for the purpose of exposing the tea party crowd as drooling maniacs?
Like, seriously, I haven't been paying attention lately and my sarcasm detector's broken. |

| It's hard to tell if it was intentional or not, but it sure will be effective. That may be why so many proposed speakers pulled out at the last minute. |
