Don't get it for the web. It works, but it's not a great experience. Get it for the access to Gutenberg books and the wireless access to Amazon's books.
It's fantastic at what it was made for -- just reading books. It has also widened the scope of what I read just because it is so easy to download a new book from Amazon/Gutenberg. (more so Amazon). _________________ Scire aliquid laus est, pudor est non discere velle

This is making me possibly reconsider a 3DS for christmas.
I like how Angry Birds is prominently displayed.
also the $199 price is very sweet.
FYI: if you are a student you qualify for amazon prime FOR FREE. _________________

i've been considering a nook color, but this may beat it out. i do want something that i can do some web-browsing on, which is why i wasn't considering the kindle.
stupid question - these all obviously have some way of connecting to the internets wirelessly, but i don't seem to have seen anywhere that says how this is done or how much it costs. the news article i read on the kindle fire said it could do wifi, but could not access the cellular networks. do the others use cellular, and if so, what do they charge? or can you add it to your existing cellphone coverage?
anybody know? _________________ aka: neverscared! |

3G on all the e-ink Kindles is free to use. They figure most people use it for browsing Wikipedia and downloading e-books, anything else would be too painful. Obviously they don't play Youtube on those things.
As long as it's not being offered through a carrier like AT&T or Verizon, the Kindle Fire will never have 3G because it'd be too expensive for Amazon to eat the costs. |

| It's basically Opera's Turbo but leveraging Amazon's infrastructure muscle. Not only do they have some speedy backhaul connections, they also own the cloud services they're using for caching. I'm thinking the point is more to emphasize their cloud service's capabilities and reliability more than just making browsing snappier for end users. It's a big ol' advertisement for EC2. |

| Is it terrible I'd still rather have a 3DS? To be fair, its because I already have a 2nd gen Kindle. |

I think if they gave one to each employee it would be a sweet marketing campaign. Just simply let your tens of thousands of workers advertise for you. _________________
