SAM'S POL-SCI CLASS
AN ACT IN MANY PLAYS
| Quote: | Teacher: Can you tell me what the basic force in all politics is?
Sam: Um, the social contract, maybe.
Teacher: The social contract is a basic force?
Sam: It's this observation that people trade rights for comfort and security.
Teacher: Well, I think that bringing Locke into this discussion is kind of esoteric.
Sam: That's Hobbes. And I'm just giving an idea about what kind of force would drive pol
Teacher: The social contract is Locke.
Sam: Nnnnnnnnno.
Teacher: We'll take this up later!
Teacher: *NEVER TAKES IT UP LATER* |
| Quote: | Student #1: Hey, does anyone else know about that whole oil spill in the middle east? I'm not just hallucinating that, am I?
Sam: Yeah, there was an oil spill off the coast of Lebanon.
Student #1: Ok, good, it exists. I thought I'd heard something about it, and ..
Student #5: Lebanon doesn't have a coast.
Sam: Y.. wff .. youuuu can check the news, there's ..
Teacher: Lebanon is to the east of Israel. They don't have a coast.
Sam: I don't .. think that you are very .. uh .. Llllllllllebanon has a coast
Teacher: I think you have them confused for another middle eastern state.
Sam: Can I please please go grab a newspaper please. And show you. Please.
Teacher: Bring it to class tomorrow. |
| Quote: | Teacher: I think the problem is that you are defining Jews as an ethnic group.
Sam: I sure am!
Teacher: They're a religious group.
Sam: Not exclusively!
Teacher: You have to be Jewish to be a jew!
Sam: But you don't have to be a follower of Judaism to be called a Jew!
Teacher: I don't think that's strictly correct.
Student #6: He's right, I mean, I'm Jewish and I don't practice religion at all.
Teacher: You are such a feisty class! We'll take this up later.
Teacher: *NEVER TAKES IT UP LATER* |
| Quote: | Sam: The deal with Chechnya and Russia involves .. a, .. degree of religious conflict.
Teacher: Right, it's a Muslim country versus an Athiest country.
Sam: Russia is an athiest country?
Teacher: They used to be communist.
Sam: Aren't they secular?
Teacher: No, they're athiest.
Student #3: Cool. The Russian Orthodox Church is athiest.
Student #7: No it's not!
Student #3: uh i was being sarcastic. |
| Quote: | Student #4: No, Muslim is incompatable with freedom. You can't have it, since the Koran says you have to kill nonbelievers.
Teacher: You mean 'Islam.'
Student #4: Oh, yah. Islam.

Here's the old thread for anyone who's confused.
Aside from the question that made my classmate immortal ("So, like...was Socrates a Christian?"), my favorite is still, "Philosophy is a stupid major because everything you need to know about ethics is in the Bible."
(Oh, browsing through the old thread makes me so very happy.) |

The teacher's grasp of geography leaves me stunned. STUNNED.
There's a map of the Middle East on the bathroom wall here. Yeah. there's a coast. Every country in the region known as the Middle East has a coast except Armenia. (and Afghanistan, if you count that far to the east as part of the middle east, but I don't.) _________________ 88 NPH |

Not to defend the teacher, but I bet he/she was thinking of Jordan, though even Jordan has coastline on the Red Sea (barely.) _________________ -Agamemnon.....but you can call me Jake.

Yeah, second rate professors are almost as bad as religion.
They mean well and all, but...something's not quite right. _________________ What is the protocol for filing with the media that I've seen Jesus in your mother's right nipple? |

I'm surprised. Why would you refer to this professor as second-rate?
I mean, why would they rate so highly? _________________ 88 NPH |

To get this back on track, even though I probably said it in the last thread: My history teacher thought that Pocahontas was a real historic figure.
