At the risk of sounding even more stupid than usual, why not just shoot the waste into space?

$10,000 per pound minimum, plus the risk of something going wrong after ignition.
Just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head.

Also, if anyone is thinking about mentioning Chernobyl, you're probably retarded. I can't say for sure, but probably.

Are you familiar with the idea of a dirty bomb? Because that's exactly what a launch failure of a rocket carrying a load of nuclear waste would be.

Yee-up. We have Admiral Rickover to thank for setting the standard on how we handle nuclear power, shipboard and otherwise, in the US, and above all else that has resulted in comparisons of US nuclear power plants to Chernobyl being a lot like comparisons of people to Hitler - completely fucking retarded. (note: this does not apply to the standards set by other countries - I'm looking at you Japan, mister build a giant nuclear reactor on top of a fault line)

I wonder what would happen if you dispose of the nuclear waste in a volcano or maybe an empty oil well?

For the purposes of waste disposal,

ground == volcano == oil well == hole-in-ground

though a volcano has the added benefit of being able to hurl things inside of it into the upper atmosphere...

I don't know about the first link, but the second link was basically "burning landfill gas is either horribly expensive or horrible for the environment and people living near landfills." Since this whole line of posts was about methods that are cleaner and less costly than nuclear power... well, it seemed a little out of place.

A. He asked for scalability.

B. It's easier to deal with/clean pollutants than nuclear waste.

Biogas is not scalable, unless you're drawing from some source you aren't posting.

More of a general article, but it applies.
