Right, as the post states, what is the worst system crash that you have had so far be it Mac OS or Windows XP.
The worst was when I downloaded a corrupted verision of AIM and my whole system just wouldn't boot up, so I had to reformat the whole thing. |

Aw, no love for the Linux/Unix/BSD/other alternatives?
Anyway, I've had nothing that a quick clean install wouldn't fix, which, given backups and whatnot, mean nothing I'd consider that horrible. |

| Hard drive failure.....and I couldn't recover anything....much cursing that day. I've also had a graphics card failure but that wasnt so bad. The good ol' days of loading an OS with floppys has gone thank fuck. |

My laptop died the day before a huge 70 page translation was due.
I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK.
Luckily, I called this guy up and it took something like 4 days, but he finally recovered the entire my documents folder for me |

But didn't you miss the translation deadline, then? _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

HP3000 Database: ROLM's Customer Master File. A simple delete command in Quick gone bad. Most of the CMF accidentally wiped. That was my first and last major error on the job; they let me keep my job mostly due to the fact that I spent hours restoring the database from hard copy. Never again did I manipulate the raw database. Instead, I created a second copy, worked my magic on it, and still backed up the master before applying changes to it.
You could literally hear the system go silent as it's data disappeared (drives were noisy then); Windoze is much more forgiving and safe while the Mac is ridiculously so. _________________

There was no Windows 92 that I'm aware of. It went from Windows 3.2 to Windows 95. What is Windows 92? _________________ -Agamemnon.....but you can call me Jake.

I've had a crash where my power supply was fried (it was dying for a while), as was the mobo and processor. Other than that, hard drive crashes. _________________ bi-chromaticism is the extraordinary belief that there exists only two options

Everquest -
My first ever Vox raid. I won the roll on a cloak of flames. Before I could get my prize my power supply goes out. I cried for a week. Then cried for a month as I tried to get my corpse out of the zone.

I had an Amiga once upon a time, to which I added a hard-drive (to the card bus on the side). The unit also allowed me to add a coule memory chips cards tot he computer. Said hard drive would crash regularly and wipe itself, but still function, so I'd have to reinstall everything.
After a couple years of this I discovered by accident I had a bad memory chip.
I haven't really had a very bad or catastrophic computer failure, knock wood.
I desperately need to back up my data files tho. _________________ 88 NPH |

5 or six years ago, I was dual booting with a linux distro(mandrake I think) and win2k. When I went to take linux off the hard drive, it took the MBR with it. I had to manually go through all my .sys & .exe files via dos to find the corrent file which was setup.exe located somewhere in a system folder. I wasn't able to format via cd-rom or floppy for some reason. took me like 5 days to go through all the folders & files to fix it. The worst part of it was that it was my first term at trying a computer science degree at Oregon State University, so i was extremely pissed. _________________
