It now sounds like there will be a Lib-Con coalition after all. Silly Britons. _________________ Scire aliquid laus est, pudor est non discere velle

I'd be surprised if that happens. If the Lib Dems walk away from this without electoral reform, they're crazy. _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

Apparently a key part of the deal they're striking with the conservatives is a referendum on electoral reform. _________________ Ironically, Halen's one of the few people here I wouldn't worry about terrifying my friends and family. Yeah, but what are they offering? AV? AV+? STV? PR? _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

I actually shed a couple of tears watching Gordon Brown's speech. Quite moving, really, very noble.
I might shed a couple more in the years to come though. Tories. Sheesh _________________ Ironically, Halen's one of the few people here I wouldn't worry about terrifying my friends and family. 'Fuck the poor.'
On the bright side, the marriage tax breaks and the inheritance tax cut have been put on hold. The income tax threshold will be raised to £10,000, as well. At least you have that, I guess. _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

Hey, on the bright side, we now live in a Con-Dem-Nation _________________ Ironically, Halen's one of the few people here I wouldn't worry about terrifying my friends and family. In my head he ends every real life conversation stroking his chin and saying, "well yes, that sounds reasonable." |

On the downside again, here's what I've been hearing:
| Quote: | So, policy stuff. Some is confirmed, some is rumour, so, pinch of salt.
Inheritance tax cut scrapped.
Marriage tax breaks not scrapped - Lib Dems will abstain on any vote.
Cap on immigration because lol.
No National Insurance rise - likely to be a VAT rise instead, because regressive taxation is so fucking great.
Government funding for independent schools because BIG SOCIETY.
£10k income tax threshold is going ahead.
Lib Dem Mansion Tax scrapped.
Lib Dems have okayed immediate public spending cuts, contrary to Cable's statements prior to the election. £9 billion is being talked about.
Capital Gains increase going ahead.
Trident renewal plans going ahead.
Referendum for AV, which is rubbish but better than nothing.
Mostly notable for the Lib Dem manifesto pledges being abandoned left right and centre, except for capital gains and £10k income tax. |
So, everybody loses! _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

I maintain that Cameron is not Thatcher and you're all a bunch of silly nannies.
Furthermore, a coalition with the Liberal Dems can only serve to further moderate whatever baby-eating tendencies the Tories still have.
But, I suppose we'll see, eh? _________________ Scire aliquid laus est, pudor est non discere velle

The Lib Dems are fine with just a referendum on AV. They officially Don't Give A Shit. _________________ attitude of a street punk, only cutting selected words out of context to get onself excuse to let one's dirty mouth loose |

Do any of you more-informed peoples have a link to a summary of what the actual agreement between the Lib Dems and Tories is? Or would anyone mind taking the time to explain it? I think I understand the gist (Referendum on an instant runoff system, which seems quite sensible; Clegg is Deputy Prime Minister; some Lib Dems are given semi-important positions, but how important are they really?; and a change in election rules so that elections are effectively set at once every five years barring massive discontent, saving the Lib Dems from momentary base-rebellion for siding with the Tories), but I'm not certain that I get the particulars. _________________ Scire aliquid laus est, pudor est non discere velle
