There is some question as to whether or not this ruling can actually be appealed. The defendant here is the State of California, and Arnold has already said that he wants to comply with Walker's ruling and start issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples right away. |

What always punches me in the logic gut is now that they lost, Prop. 8 supporters are doing nothing more than appealing to the idea of "civil rights" in their rhetoric.

well, for one, the ruling didn't do any freaky time travel vote-erasing gimmickry...
...not even of any actual resident of california's vote -- the closed-minded bias and the flimflammery of the weak-willed sheep in california is still enshrined in history.
just doesn't happen to be the end of the process |

yeah, that's just getting ridiculous. we can still vote - we just can't vote for something that is legally indefensible.
but i'm guessing these people are thinking (or hoping) that all we need to make lynch law legal is to get a proposition passed.

i'm trying to remember where i read something about somewhat at a rally holding up a sign that said something like "the solution to gay marriage" - with 2 nooses on it.
but really - the judge ruled that prop 8 was denying people their civil rights. and it doesn't matter _how_ many people are misguided enough to vote for a thing like that, it's still wrong. it doesn't deprive you of your right to vote - it just says you can't make blatantly unconstitutional stuff legal just by voting for it.
ok, sorry, choir, preaching over.

but, but, that's the thing -- we can (and apparently do).
and then 'we' get our day in court, by proxy, where the legally indefensible is, nonetheless, carefully considered (we would hope), judged and (not self-righteously, mind you) righteously tossed out on 'our' ear.
it might have been nicer for the carpetbagging opponents of the lifting of the ban on gay marriage had the judge penned his opinion with a heavy hand and gritted teeth, but i think that's one of the things i like best about america -- it isn't incumbent upon justice to commiserate with morons. |
