I'd be in Ravenclaw so I could learn all about Wrackspurts and Nargles.
and moon frogs
and blibbering humdingers

I'd be the witch who flew to the moon on a Cleansweep Six and brought back moon frogs as proof but no one would believe me

as for profession, I'd be an artificer.
I'd make stuff, then people would go to Diagon Alley and buy it and thus support my existence.

My "patronus" would be a rock.

It would not be very effective.

You'd think that an artificer would be able to handle a charm of that difficulty level, but no. Just the difficult artificing charms.

my favorite part of Harry Potter was when Voldemort deactivated all of the nuclear weapons in the world because they posed a threat, thereby saving the lives of millions of muggles

Revenge of the Wrens: Wrenvenge!

We left our sliding dining room/patio door open this morning because the weather's nice.
I walk into the dining room and a pair of Carolina wrens dart out from the top of a book case and right by my face, as their kind are wont to do.
One of them flew out through the open sliding door, the other veered off into the kitchen.
I went into the kitchen, turned off the fans and lights, and opened the back door to let it out. But it kept trying to fly out through the closed window instead, until it had enough and hid behind another book case. I shuttered the window and tapped the book case with a stick to shoo it out. Success.
Had to clean up a bit of bird poop.

The end.

I remember when I was a kid there was a big movement in all the local grocery stores to stop using paper bags and and start using plastic because we were killing all the trees and ruining the environment.

It's amazing how laughably stupid that premise seems to me today.

I just picked up an abstract algebra book at the local library (as a reference) that had been there for at least the last fifteen years.

It was printed in 1998 but still looks brand-new, and was in fact the newest book on the topic that they had. The fundamentals of the topic haven't changed much since then, so this wasn't an issue for me.

The reason that the book's age is significant is that when I opened it, its spine cracked like it had never been opened before.

this made me sad

My first reaction is to suspect I've read that one too, but in truth there are hundreds of LISP AI books because LISP was supposed to be THE language of AI.
