It's freeform poetry HR, it doesn't have to make sense.

Although I am implying that the author has postmodern leanings, and strays from the true path.

Like a bird with no home.

It's beautiful, it explains my exact feelings towards stream of consciousness poetry.

That freedom that I seek, it's within my grasp.

When two souls communicate at the most basic level, you know that world peace is still possible in this existence.

Fun fact: when the nurse tells you a tetanus shot will feel exactly like someone slugged you in the arm, they aren't kidding. I barely felt the needle, but a couple hours later and it feels exactly like someone punched me.

Weird.

Beats getting tetanus, though, eh?

Okay, something a bit more serious than screaming "aaaaaaa" for a moment

I was looking at some statistics, and I just realized that I went to a university at which the the average SAT score was three full standard deviations below my own SAT score.

In case you've forgotten the significance of "3" in this context, here's a visual representation:

this is probably a bad thing, isn't it

I always found ways to justify this to myself (undergrad doesn't matter, just jump through the hoops so you can move on with things, the quality of the students at the institution doesn't matter as much as the quality of the professors, you'll be able to get the four year degree in just two years if you go to the smaller school, just keep reading, etc), but I've hit a bit of a dull point can't help but think that maybe I was wrong.

In the end the only reason I went where I did was that I was being lazy.
Well, that, and and the fact that I like small communities.

Maybe it would have been better to put in the little extra bit of effort it would have taken to go somewhere with a higher baseline. At an ivy league I would have been only a half of a standard deviation above average. I don't know if I would have actually learned more in an environment with a bit higher of a waterline, but I can't afford to continue to be so lazy about my associations.

While I was at this institution, there was one student in my department who I considered to be on a level substantially higher than my own. He transferred away after one semester, and this made me sad. I want an environment chock of such people.

I finished classes at that place about a year ago, so it's not a question of trying to transfer out or anything. It's a question of whether I should do anything differently from here on out. I've piddled around for a year, learned some things, and made a bit of money, but ultimately it still feels like a year wasted. I'm in pretty much the same place as I was a year ago.

I'm not skilled enough to accomplish my goals just yet, and I can't hone myself through sheer willpower. I have to let my environment take on some of the burden. But is it really worth it to go somewhere more prestigious? And how much more difficult is it after only having gone somewhere that no one has heard of?

are you talking about graduate school? a lot will depend on your references.
it also depends on what sorts of courses you took - even in a middle-of-the-road school, there are classes for more advanced students - higher levels of mathematics, that sort of thing. so you will look different to other schools if you took the tough stuff, vs. just the basic everyone-takes-it courses.

what sorts of goals are you trying to accomplish?
