By way of example, I used to watch Discovery Wings, a channel dedicated to all things aviation. They even had interstitial segments between commercials that would tell you how to land a trike plane vs. a tail-wheel. (This was also about the same time the Science Channel aired those CSM segments debunking shit like homeopathy and magnet therapy).
Then it became The Military Channel, dedicated to all the "sexy" things about the 20th+ century military (mostly hardware and learning how SEALS kill people with their bare hands). It was substantially less interesting, especially with all the catheter, medical insurance, and hardon-pill commercials.
After years of that schtick they finally threw even the "EVERYTHING MILITARY!" mandate out and just changed format to America's Heroes Channel. Which means they broadened their programming a bit to include stuff about astronauts and then random shows that totally do NOT fit the mandate at all (pseudo-archeologist "adventurers" looking for treasure, etc.).

You obviously haven't watched History in some time. Let me quote a Cracked article that came out today which sums it up well enough:

Just switch on the History Channel -- after shifting from history-based programming to "reality" shows (those are sarcasm quotes!), their ratings exploded thanks to a hit line-up that included shows such as Conspiracy, Ancient Aliens, and UFO Hunters. Back when it was dedicated to factual documentaries, History was the 20th most popular cable network, but since switching Hitler out for little green men, it's shot up to the Top 5. Bullshit sells.

Well, we went from "this is why I don't watch TV" to "clearly you haven't watched TV recently." So, yeah.

Everything I know about the History channel I learned from seeing this image on the Internet:

I haven't watched broadcast television in, oh, a decade or so?

i love that guy! you can tell how far you are into the season by how wild his hair is. that pic was clearly from fairly well along.

it's good show if you like snarking back at the screen. and sometimes they sow pictures of neat places.

Bit gutted. Spent two-and-a-half years working on a software framework that includes a kind of programming language for cellular electrophysiology. Never once thought of naming it Ca++.

Latest work by Clerxxx declared 'maculate' by critics. "We always said this kind of thing was possible. We always dreamed it would come true."

I'm eating from the 4 major food groups right now! The cereal group, the sugar group, the milk group, and the spoon group.

There are spoons made of corn starch. Maybe you could eat those.

if you define "spoon" broadly enough something that might otherwise be considered a bowl is actually a giant spoon
