The thing about not having a job is, it's this: I have no identity. I am the poor bum living off his sister's couch. I don't like this situation much. _________________

No, I got off my arse today and stopped feeling sorry for myself (ie, hungover) and applied for a bunch of jobs, having given up hope that my previous employer means to find me another position. He's only spoken to me for two minutes since Xmas Day.
One thing I did find is this lovely village pub that I know by reputation, near to where I was recently based (ie, Girls!) is up for grabs. I applied this afternoon. I know the area manager for that region, he was very positive and helpful when I phoned him on Friday. So, hopeful, whilst not getting carried away.
Also things aren't too bad here. Bro-in-law was supportive but not *too* supportive, until I mentioned that I'd given my sister £100 for bills a day or two earlier. She hadn't mentioned that to him, and I think they might have subsequently had a conversation about it, but everything's cool short-term. (Very short-term).
Plus I received the nerdiest wedding invite ever yesterday. Halen, you nerd. _________________

Did it have Spiderman on it? Also, good luck. If they ask for a personal reference tell them to register on the forum. We can all tell them how much we would like to drink with you. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. And if you can all mention how much you would pay to drink with me, perhaps pressing your bitcoin account details on to any brewery wallahs who might enquire, that would be mega helpful right now. _________________

I know I'm descending to comic subforum levels here but...
In this 1996 clip of "Shooting Stars" Louise Wener basically is Monique :-)
That's the same year her band released the album "The It Girl" |

Just how did you come across this.
What sequence of misclicks and misjudgments led you there. _________________ Tsosm! Now trying out a trashier front page. |

i have no idea where to put this.
i am trying to find a list of occupation codes for some government surveys. i've got a list of grouped occupation codes, but i need to know what the specific ones mean. so, for example, under service occupations (recode=0 , i have
433-439, 443-444 food service
445-447 health service
448-449, 453-455 cleaning and building service
456-459, 463-469 personal service
now you can see, those 3-digit codes seem to cover a lot of ground. 'food service' could be anything from busboy to waiter to cook, i suppose. and i suspect that each specific category has different health risks, but if i want to relate health risk to occupation, i need to know what each specific code means. so i can't just look at 'all food service' if the only group at special risk is dishwashers.
so i'm digging though government websites trying to find code lists, and i hit on a manual for the people who fill out these surveys, and i plunge into it excitedly, figuring they _must_ have a code list somewhere (they don't).
and i hit on their example for how to find something in the index. their example?
fig caprifiers.
seriously.
| Quote: | c. All job titles in the DOT and the SOC Manual are listed alphabetically
in the SOC. For example, if the industry and occupation entries
were:
Industry: Farm
Occupation: Caprifying figs
Look up "fig caprifier" in the SOC Manual under the alphabetical
listing. Find the job title cross referenced with SOC codes. DOT (not
Census) industry codes, and DOT occupational codes.
(NOTE: Several job titles do not have DOT codes.)

it's in the list. it must be a real job.
so what the hell does a 'fig caprifier' do? i can find things online about 'caprifigs' (those which require the assistance of a tiny wasp to be fertilized). but not a caprifier.
so is a fig caprifier a wasp-wrangler? someone who assaults innocent male and female figs, pretending to be a wasp? in the list i'm trying to decode, 116 is in the category 'teachers, librarians and counselors' - does a fig caprifier teach wasps? counsel them when they have issues pollinating figs? it can't actually _be_ a wasp, i am reasonably certain that, extensive as the government survey system is, there are no large-scale interview surveys done on wasps.
how am i supposed to concentrate on my job when i'm trying to figure out what a fig caprifier is? can i really continue to live life in my previously carefree fashion, now that i know that there is actually a government documented profession of fig caprification? what do they do in the off-season? do they migrate?
and people wonder why it takes me so long to get things done. _________________ aka: neverscared! |
