Milgram had a question to answer, and he answered it. Hardly anyone from the original milgram experiments thought they were worse of for it, and many of them were thankful for the insights it gave them into their own psyche.
Just because the implications from the experiment are scary, doesn't make the experimentor himself insane.

...whoawhoawhoa. hold up there. that's a pretty candy-coated view of what went on. yes, after time a majority of participants expressed an approval of the value of the experiment, but many participants spent years in therapy (granted, provided mostly by Milgram in follow-up exams) and a good portion had severe initial reactions caused by the belief they had caused harm or death to the person behind the wall.
and reactions later don't change the assertion that Milgram was quite possibly out of line to not discontinue the experiments given the emotional trauma expressed immidiately by almost all participants.
but all that aside, we're talking lightheartedly about the relative insanity of famous psychologists based in good part on pictures. like good ol' aaron beck, here:

That sounds so progressive and helpful and not at all a bad idea. Maybe they should also arrest her, or at the very least just point at her and laugh a whole bunch. |

Seriously though, I think they need to step it up. I say expel every college student who is having sex unprotected and/or promiscuously (?sp) since they are obviously putting themselves at risk to catch an incurable lethal disease. Since this would have the same end effect as suicide, I say it should be treated the same.
