Golly aren't I a rainbow of joy and sunshine.
Pentagon Report: Situation Defintely Fucked
Bush Report: Don't Say That, Say 'Encouraging'
Apparently, 1,600 Iraqis died to cold-blooded execution-style slayings in July alone -- civilian casualties due to sectarian conflict have climbed by 51%.
Right now, the biggest deal (the anti-US insurgent coalition entirely aside) is that there is an 'unofficial' war between the Sunni and the Shia. It's the Badr and the Interior Ministry death squads versus the Sunni death squads, and they're slaying each other off as fast as they can possibly manage. It's been described as broaching upon the point of genocidal campaign.
We have gone past talking-point neuralgia; now we're being force-fed an indulgent diet of 'this is not civil war.'

Why, oh why, won't someone impeach this man?
Oh, yeah, right...
I can't wait for someone to support Bush's logically ignorant position on this. His war on an abstract concept is centered around Iraq? Terrorism knows no borders, my dim-witted world leader, that's why nation-states are often so ill-equipped to deal with it.

No no no, you have it all wrong. This isn't the "war on terrorism". This is the war on terror. That means being afraid.

| It would probably help a lot if they told us by what standards they considered something to officially be a civil war. |

| It's only civil war if it happens in the U.S. In every other country it's just a border skirmish. |

Yes... it's anti-democracy insurgents attempting to subvert the will of the Iraqi people!
We've been so blind. Thank God for GWB. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. I’ll do anything to protect them from hurt, the human race is what I serve." - Baba Brinkman |

it's a civil war if it happens on someone else's watch.
(and i see no reason why cheney can't be impeached at the same time as bush. he's certainly not any _less_ guilty.) _________________ aka: neverscared! |

The mainstream media in the USA likes to present Bush as Cheney's hand-puppet. In reality, the entire USA government is based on blood money and corporate interests, much of them offshore. This includes the Democrats, who are as ineffectual as the Republicans are dangerous.
Sure, soldiers dying isn't cool, but if it took a fuckup of this proportion to make people understand this, I'm actually thankful for the whole Iraq mess. Reason being that it would take a drooling idiot not to see this now.

| I've actually heard some people talk about parliamentary governments with pride in the fact that things rarely get done, that way any one radical interest has even less of a chance of pushing something like Prohibition through. |

That does not surprise me. Stasis is the mandate of the people, nobody wants to rock the $5-latte boat, so that's what the politicians preach.
Prohibition was a farce initiated by ethnoreligious groups, anyway. They had too much hold on government back then, and they have too much now. All it did in the end was put too much money in the hands of organised criminals. |
