It ought to be called American Exemptionalism. International Criminal Court? Oh, we're exempt. Landmine treaty? Sorry, exempt. You know that Article 2.7 of the UN Charter about not interfering in internal affairs that China is always citing? We put it there, our own little exemption clause, lest the segregation and Jim Crow laws of the day be cited as human rights violations. American Exemptionalism, the lingering legacy of the less enlightened, now Made in China. _________________ The reward for a good life is a good life. |
