the local sheriff says five people have been killed and the Congresswoman and seven others are still alive, although in grave condition, as of this moment, so, grains of salt all around, but still, holy shit, a Congresswoman just got shot

they've been getting all kinds of conflicting reports about whether or not she's alive. last thing I heard is that she's still alive and when they were wheeling her in, she was still talking. there will be a news conference any minute.

According to the hospital, a child and a federal judge were killed in the incident but the doctors are optimistic that Giffords will survive.

Given what I've seen of the youtube videos, I can't say Palin's irresponsible use of gun analogies has anything to do with this shooting. The fact that Rep Giffords was on her "hit list" looks purely coincidental and she was targeted because she was the easiest person to get to.
