I think most people would agree with the assumption that it is bad for you -- toxic even. The problem with sugar is that everything in its category is temptingly tastey. |
Peanut butter has very few carbs in it no? _________________ When life gives you lemons, some people make lemonade. I just eat them and make a sour face. |

Nope, but a single serving does contain 133% of your daily recommended intake of trans fats.

Also, dutch peanut butter has 50% less carbs and a bit more fat. _________________ When life gives you lemons, some people make lemonade. I just eat them and make a sour face. |

I don't actually care, since I think peanut butter is made by the devil, and tastes like actual poo. _________________ Ironically, Halen's one of the few people here I wouldn't worry about terrifying my friends and family. I love it, and the nature store has some brilliant other nut pastes. _________________ When life gives you lemons, some people make lemonade. I just eat them and make a sour face. |

Well, what I mean is people who eat 0 or near zero amounts of sugar shouldn't be factored in at all. I want to see what the median and modal averages are as well. I'm also pretty sure, going by cookie and candy recipes alone, that their is easily a significant amount of the population who eats several factors greater than what is presented. |
but the figure is the _average_ for americans. so you have to include people who eat no sugar. they may eat weird, but they are still americans.
true, more statistics would give you a better picture. but it sounds like what you really want is to see the high numbers. just because some people are at the extremes, doesn't mean the average isn't meaningless. you know, bell-shaped curve and all?
it would also be interesting to see what the levels are like for people in other countries, and some estimates of what it was like say 50 or 100 years ago in the US. hard to say how different things are from just one point. _________________ aka: neverscared! |

I just ate a delectable hand-forged doughnut.
I sometimes wonder if it's overreaching to blame most obesity on a single macronutrient, when there are multiple possibilities and even some weirder explanations out there - but the circumstantial evidence for the negative effects of excess dietary sugars with fructose, particularly HFCS, is growing, despite some healthy criticism along the way, as well as a healthy selection of cranks in opposition.
Human studies instead of rodent studies would go a long way toward quieting some critics. Also, my eyes are starting to glaze over reading abstracts and papers discussing lipolysis of in vivo murine adipocytes (or in normal human-speak, live mouse fat cells releasing their fatty stores to the bloodstream) and keeping track of the various acronyms for glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. _________________ The reward for a good life is a good life. |
