But when you dig just a bit deeper, the reality is much more inconvenient and involves actual work and complex social issues. |
I disagree that they must "resort"to lying to attract an audience. I agree that reality is actual work and complex. This is why I place blame at the feet of people like Bear Grylls because he is perpetuating the kind of programming that hurts science based shows. Mythbusters is on the right track but they occasionally piss me off by not using proper science (or using basic formulas to create experiments that have unarguable results). However, they are on the right track and have a huge audience without lying.
Anyone who lies is just taking an easy way out to get an audience and I find it reprehensible. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

I mean, without the explosions, would as many people watch mythbusters.
It may not be dishonest per say, but it's pretty biased in favor of more explosions.
Is there really no better way to get attention? |

There is a difference between trying to "make science fun" and maybe dumbing it down too much and presenting stupid false information that might get someone killed.
This is clearly not the forum for you. _________________

Why knock what works? And just because explosions work doesn't preclude other methods (see Alton Brown).
As I said earlier, when the entertainment factor becomes more important than the educational factor the show is no longer educational. That doesn't mean the entertainment factor is unimportant. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

I'd say you can always learn information from anything regardless of the entertainment factor, but that's just crazy ol me. |

I disagree especially when I would have to look up all the information to check what is true and what isn't. Therefore I am learning from my research, not from the show. An entertaining educational show should inspire one to want to learn more, not just relearn what you learned. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.
