classic stuff, that speech. |

yeah yeah, everyone's a critic!
heh. Kilborn was decent on the Daily Show, but it really became something once Stewart took over. |

| Stewart's damn awesome and all, but now that I've seen Stephen Col-bear do his show day in and day out with a "straight face" success rate of like 95% my bar has been raised in terms of on-air performance. |

Look, they're both absolutely perfect for the programs they operate.
The Daily Show is the core concept, the sun around which Colbert's show concept revolves. Colbert's show is the intellectual brainchild and logical extension of the gestalt parody of American polity that the Daily Show started -- a direct parody of partisan rhetoric and pretension.
The Daily Show requires a larger retinue and requires that Stewart be the greater of the two talents; he's got to shift seamlessly from the barbed zinger to the straight man, and pull a real light-hearted mutual connection with the crowd.
Colbert has to go to the opposite end of the spectrum, and be razor-sharp in delivering the same character, always. No breaks, no laffs, he's got to hold the razor edge of his shtick.
Stewart is fluid and loquacious, Colbert is precise and unerring. Water, rock.
Together, they're wonderful. |
