Huh. You know, I sell a lot of jewelry and I don't think I've ever sold an engagement ring for a guy. I mean, not one that was specifically mentioned as such anyway. We do sell a lot of his and hers wedding bands, but thats totally different.

Regarding what happens to engagement rings after the wedding: my wife's engagement ring was a piece of a set. The ring had a jacket that it could be set into permanently to become the wedding ring.

For me, we had discussed getting an engagement ring for me as well, but in my case I'm just not a fan of wearing jewelry in the first place so the gesture seemed kind of off. I've heard of other engagement gifts that are fairly permanent, including someone receiving an engagement chainsaw which is kind of ridiculous for anyone with two hands and not named Ash. Isn't one of the points to show to others that you are committed to someone in a non-verbal manner?

I like that people are exploring different options and I've never been terribly fond of rings as a symbol of marriage anyway. In my experience, having such a standardized symbol really leads to "reading a book by its cover". People assume that the presence of a ring on the appropriate finger indicates fidelity or that the absence indicates availability. I've met married women with no jewelry to indicate that they were married, and some people who wear rings for a number of reasons other than current commitments.

i just can't stand rings, period; i have an overwhelming paranoia that they'll get stuck on my finger. i'm like the inverse of that Beyonce song.

If you like then you shouldn't put a ring on it~

I like wedding rings but I think engagement rings are a bit unnecessary. xP

Well, I got my fiance an engagement ring less to put a claim on her-mostly because she wanted one (she's a bit of a tradiotionalist when it comes to some romantic things), and recieving one would make her happy. If she lost the ring, I would be more upset/worried because I know losing it would make *her* upset to lose it. I wouldn't be upset with *her* for losing it. (Thankfully, amethysts are not as stupidly overpriced as diamonds. YAY PRETTY COLORED STONES)

We did not get me a ring because... I am not sure, it did not come up. PArtially because I HATE RINGS (and she enjoys wearing them) due to my stupidly wide knuckles and ultra-skinny fingers, and constant fear of losing them. Any ring I've tried to wear that's NOT just a simple band kind of just.. inverts and smashes into my palm.

We just used the engagement ring as the wedding ring for her.

My ring is too big, but it doesn't come in half sizes and the next size down is painfully tight. Luckily it's heavy enough that I know the moment it slips.

Disney says "No way, we didn't intend to use it too much in the first place. Totally."

Having not seen Brave, i didn't realize she hated the gown the redesign put her in. That is beyond stupid.

Also, the redesigned princesses look drunk.

Drunk, yes. Even more wrong, they look like they are trying to seduce me. These are main characters in children's movies, who look like they are currently ready to fuck me. It gives me the most inappropriate boner I've ever had, and I once experienced puberty.

The worst part is that the original Pixar design was specifically created to provide a healthy, realistic looking young girl. Her body was specifically designed to work against all the changes introduced in the re-design, which makes them that much more horrible in my book.
