First stretch goals announced!

Quote:
MORE PLATFORMS.

We've been reading your comments and suggestions, and we couldn't agree more: to be accessible to more kids and families, we need to be on MOBILE DEVICES. We also need to be on ANDROID. And for families and classrooms -- especially those that can't afford computers or tablets for each child -- we also need to be on connected devices that can put Reading Rainbow back on the television: both the most common GAMING CONSOLES kids use, like XBOX and Playstation, and on new OVER THE TOP (OTT) BOXES like AppleTV, Roku and Kindle Fire TV.

When we reach $5,000,000, we'll be able to expand to all of these platforms.

MORE CLASSROOMS.

This part is even simpler: if we can raise more, we can help more... and there are a lot of classrooms that can use the help. At $1,000,000, we were able to provide Reading Rainbow for free to at least 1,500 classrooms in need.

When we reach $5,000,000, we'll be able to provide free access for over 7,500 CLASSROOMS. That's 5x MORE CLASSROOMS.

BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF WE PASS $5,000,000?

If we reach our stretch goal of $5 million with time to spare, we'll announce an even more ambitious stretch goal, and even more plans for what we can accomplish. But no matter what we raise, every single dollar will be focused on the exact same mission: Bringing Reading Rainbow Back for Every Child, Everywhere.

We've still got big ideas for additional stretch goals -- among them, plans to bring Reading Rainbow to PUBLIC LIBRARIES, and to expand the virtual library to introduce FOREIGN LANGUAGE BOOKS.

But this isn't just LeVar's mission... it's yours, too! If you have suggestions for additional stretch goals, or ideas to bring Reading Rainbow back for EVERY CHILD, EVERYWHERE, please speak up in the comments, where we can all discuss them!

Three days into the fundraiser and they're over halfway to that 5 million.

Over $3 million.

Also, this might be old, but this fine print on the "estimated delivery" still makes me chuckle:

Wow, only $20 to ship a LaBurton! Maybe he's just really light.

I meant LaVar, but I'll leave it.

I also imagine they'd have to ship Los Angeles, and the dinner too.

I'm kickstartering https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/859254890/for-my-brother, a game a friend of mine is working on (Full disclosure)

I'm pumped both A) Because he's a pretty good designer,
B) Because the premise of melding Metroid, Megaman, and Shaow of the Colossus gameplay sounds fun and
C) I really like the premise. Said premise is a girl defeating monsters (And, in the process, gaining aspects of each one she defeats, (and *BECOMING* monstrous) in order to save her younger brother (.. Which is, admittedly, also my headcannon for Shadow of the Colossus, albeit that's brother-saving-sister)

Oooooh.......

I love the art style! And did I read right that there will be metal music in it? I so want to play this! And from the preview, it looks like I would be able to without getting nauseous!

That is definitely a cool premise, too. I hope they get the money!

I do, too-One of the reasons I'm trying to spread it. =)

I definitely donated, but I can't afford as much as I'd like, sigh.

But you donated some! That's more than I can do.

Still helps, and even though I'm not part of the project, thanks!

The bathtub curve on those Reading Rainbow donations was pretty brutal. Things fell off and nearly flatlined until just a couple of days to the deadline, then there was a mad rush!

The total amount donated through Kickstarter was $5.4 million.

5 million was their first stretch goal, in which they promised to offer a free subscription to 7,500 classrooms (5x the original amount at the $1M goal).
Just before hitting the $5M mark, they also put in some additional stretch goals. Each additional $100,000 donated to the Kickstarter would add another 500 classrooms to the total.

So that last $.4M extends their support to another 2,000 additional classrooms, for a total of 9,500 classes with a free year's subscription! Plus, Seth McFarlane promised to match all donations up to $1M, so they're bringing in $6.4M all told.

This is also the most backers any Kickstarter has ever garnered, at 105,857. It didn't raise the most money (the Pebble smartwatch brought in almost twice the amount), but it does rank 5th!

The rewards for that campaign were fantastic. If I was rich, I would totally have gone for the library visit.
