His DudeBro status has already been revoked, not like it's in any danger. _________________

Hopefully this doesn't end with Squig throwing away his porn collection... again.
And going into withdrawal... again.
That would just be too redundant. _________________ Opinions are like ass holes: everybody has them. Sometimes they're clean... sometimes they stink... and sometimes they're just full of shit. But if you love shoving yours up on other people's faces, then you're a fucking whore. |

No one's acting all serious! Fine, I will.
I like this comic because of the underlying message of how men will be perceived as weak for portraying emotions. Even in this modern society where men don't mind doing chores and tending for the kids while the SO works, they're still expected to be the rock that is there for others but never needs help themselves.
To recount on a real life experience, my boyfriend once collapsed because of emotional exhaustion. His mother had died two weeks ago and he barely cried, just kept going and pretended to be fine. I was worried because he was so neutral on it and REALLY worried when I found out he had been surpressing it. His reasoning? Emotions are weak. He should be there for me, not me for him.
I couldn't care less what society thinks, I'm not letting my boyfriend destroy himself. So lots of hugs, tears and badgering later he can openly say his feelings to me but only in a private space.

Ha! Redundancy means nothing to Tat!
I mean, have you read the Fuchsia strips?
Remember, you can't spell "redundancy" without letters from the English alphabet. |

You should not do this.
Current research shows that while venting does feel good, it actually prolongs the feelings the person is venting about because he or she is suddenly talking about them all the time. By badgering until he'll tell you about the thing that makes him unhappy, you are really only extending the period it takes for him to recover.
Just be understanding and do nice, supportive things to cheer him up and distract him from his sadness. Don't drag it onto a stage, even if it's a private stage.
That said, this "dudebro" thing would struggle to get stupider. My ex watched porn all the time and, well, surprise, she didn't do it because she was worried about what the "dudebros" thought. I mean cripes, somebody should probably tell Squig that he's being more emotional about porn than any woman I've ever personally met in the entire history of my life.
I understand that Tat is trying to invent scenarios where feminism and the Glossy Posse have some benefit to male characters too, but this is stretching. _________________ Everyone thinks they are individuals who follow their own rules. Ah. I may or may not have spent the last five minutes laughing at the fact that you, of all people, are advocating for a lack of communication.
Bravo. *snirk*
Edit: It's been over an hour and I keep remembering this and chuckling. _________________ Samsally the Gray |

They're just not good for you, Rants. Let's go down town and get a drink, my treat. It's okay to be sad, but we'd rather be happy!
Really, the less chance you have to dwell on an unsolvable sadness, like a death in the family, the faster you can come to terms with it. People who bottle their emotions don't explode, contrary to folk wisdom. They move on. Emotions are for quick responses and rapid decisions - we aren't actually programmed to store them up without continued stimulus, and being brought to talk about a sad thought or memory is a kind of stimulus.

Do you want the people you care about to be sad or happy? Honestly, you guys are so awful. It's not a deficiency if a person doesn't want to talk about something that makes them sad or unhappy.
Communication is to let people know how things can be fixed. If your partner doesn't clean up around the house and it makes you angry, then you communicate and let them know. If they're depressed because their mom died, you give them a massage, take them out to shows and dinner, and help them take their mind off of things. You don't have to talk. If you actually care, you already know your lover is sad because of a death in the family, and there's nothing either of you can do to improve the situation.
You laugh because you and a lot of forum nobles here have lousy social skills, even for folks on the internet. All you guys ever do is parade around, freaking out about people who disagree with you because you're too insecure to realize not every shred of life's data is about you. Most people probably barely notice you, and fewer remember - believe it or not, that's a statistic.
Don't worry about your damn image so much and most people will never realize it's flawed. _________________ Everyone thinks they are individuals who follow their own rules.
