I love the minimalist second panel. I could live with the whole strip being that way. _________________

These calligraphic interludes are always lovely and poignant. However for this one, I would like to add a very small note of constructive criticism.
I would have liked to have seen the leaf above the stack of books falling from frame to frame, until coming to rest in the final one. I realize that this is normally like a snapshot that incrementally evolves into the character(s), without any frame to frame motion, but I think the added motion might have benefited this one.
This isn't nitpicking. The artist pays such great attention to detail, that I think that this is the sort of thing that he would consider; of course, he may have done so, and then rejected the idea. |

The leaf is part of the hanzi/kanj character in the last frame. If it fell further... _________________

It's fitting that books would form the 言 (words). I'm not sure how good of a 舌 (tongue) zombie-dude would make, though.

Really, if you're going to bother about that, you might as well consider it to have drifted upwards in a draft towards the end. It moves down then up.
Nothing's really static in any of these calligraphy strips, anyway, though |
