Yay, debate time!
Issue for the day's discussion : Is it truly worth it to sell yourself out, if the rewards reaped and benefits given are truly what you desire in life? _________________ Hey there pretty little lady,

Awesome.
One of the reasons I love this comic is that its not afraid to debate hot topics, been here since 2001, have never really felt a need to say anything in the forums, but hell, I may not agree fully with the feminist arc but its a part of sinfest same as anything else. Through hell and high water Tats always found a way to express himself through the work of art, the art of exploration and questioning. If he be damned for that then fuck it, debates happen, we all judge eachother, just got to live with it and move on.
Damnit did I say something profound, need my anxiety medicine took too many energy drinks (1).
Just chimed in to say I love ya Tat... Bro love. |

NO NO NO
THIS IS WRONG WRONG WRONG
You really didn't sign that
Fame you have/had
Fortune I am not sure-- bet you didn't get it though
And no Fangirls either
Pretty Cool To Have Blue and give you some personal attention
she is still mad at you for not getting her and Jessie together longer.

Perhaps Tat is having a crisis of conscience? _________________ "This calls for grapes!" - The Devil |

The truly scary thing is he really believes he's doing the right thing now, zealously fighting the good fight. Idealists believing in a noble mission naturally turn out to bring the biggest amount of harm. The devil works in an ironic way.

I worry for Tat. Sometimes it seems like he really has contempt for himself, and that's just sad to see. This comic used to be so light hearted... now it's making me think the author is slitting his wrists, or something. I hope he get's help, if it really is that serious. _________________ DON'T PANIC |

Tat has fangirls? Like, webcomic groupies? Yeah, sure, go on, pull the other one.
Actually, I guess that makes sense.
But that would mean someone's actually met Tat, and CLEARLY THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN. |

He really needs professional help to accept his own sexuality.
Tat has engaged in feminist self-loathing and self-bashing, and it's not the first time he devotes big coloured pages to do it.
However... no amount of self-hate will be enough, Tat. There's only one solution for all men: to cut off our evil raping penises. |

"Sinfest" - a webcomic; of a gathering of characters that do different 'sins'.
Looking at the original comics that had "pre-Squig" which Tat published at uni in the 90's, then the original Sinfest, arriving at today, 12 years later - what has been the driving perspective for Tat that got this comic out there? Pre-Squig was certainly sexist. Different characters have been reigned in by others over the years for doing <insert>, but this is the first time that Master has been (from memory, correct me if I'm wrong please). Whats socially acceptable today in society and in print media has certainly changed since June 2000; but both Joandark and Ktern make good points. Estranged, going along the lines of "Idle hands are the Devil's playthings"?
Regardless, we as an audience haven't lost faith in Tat - otherwise we wouldn't be here reading and commenting on the strips if we did. _________________ "Give a man food, you feed him for a day...

you know, something kinda occurred to me. until the sisterhood popped up (and in their case, they didn't start out this way) nobody in this comic could be considered a halfway decent role model, and honestly, this whole time i've thought that was the point
slick's a chauvinist ass, squig's... well... a pig in every sense, 'nique was self-centered and kinda manipulative, etc.
(they're all likeable, of course, but that's a different matter. you can like them while knowing they're completely wrong--seymour is one of the most blatant examples)
given that, though, shouldn't the characters' previous actions be seen under this lens and consequently not be such a source of apparent regret for tat? the characters were supposed to be flawed from the start, their actions and attitude were supposed to be offensive and terrible. isn't that why it's called sinfest?
what the hell is he beating himself up for? |
