So be it. Lemme share my philosophy on religion.

There are three kinds of religious persons in the world:

- The modest: follows his religion's teachings as liberally as possible. Doesn't impose his beliefs unto other people and respects other belief systems. May go to his place of worship sometimes, but in reality does not feel the need to do so.

- The charismatic: outspoken about his religion, but does not force it when people don't want to. Goes to his place of worship frequently.

- The fanatic/zealot: follows his religion's teachings by the letter. Will preach about it if given any opportunity to do so. Everything else that goes against his belief system is a sin directly against him.

Actually, that's a pretty decent depiction of the way religious fundies have been trying to barracade access to transgender treatment and full participation in society. They've been losing, as I suppose Seymour will lose in the end, but that doesn't stop them from throwing werenches into the machinery or blocking access to healthcare , benefits, marriage equality, basic documentation (birth certificate changes, DL info changes, Passports, and Social Security information)., and bathrooms. Bathrooms and healthcare seem to be the places they concentrate on most right now.

When I had my BC and DL info changed, I went to the SS office to get a new card and change the gender marker they had for me. They still maintain that I have to have proof of genital surgery. I told them I had mine after birth when I was mis-assigned, and the Dr. has been dead for 20 years. They said they were sorry, but without the Dr's letter, they couldn't do anything. This was a problem for a while, because it created a situation where I couldn't be hired without being "outed" as IS, but luckilly my employer is me, so that isn't much of a problem. They've corrected that policy for employer disclosure, but still require proof of my having my naughty bits messed with before they'll change one letter for another. So, my Birth Certificate can show that I was born female, but according to the federal government, I'm male. Wanna see my periods or endometriosis? But that's better than could have happened, some of my Trans* friends have had far worse times with their documentation.

BTW, I think he made a lovely nun.

It's interesting how people acknowledge the different groups and idealogies in religion but not in movements. Weird.
