Yeah, this all pretty much applies to me as well. Also, depending upon the system, rogue are most likely to get items and abilities that allow them to act like the other two. Theoretically mage should win out in this line of reasoning, but experience has shown me far too many nerfed magic systems.
Some type of healer/support class is vital to multiplayer/multi-character experiences (Dragons' Age, Baldur's Gate, etc.) but I don't think it holds up as well in a single player situation.
Also, Elminster is/was all three AND a priest.
Lastly, Monks FTW!
