| All this reminds me of that commercial aired years ago where this guy was letting all his friends and whoever control his life, style, image, etc. At the end he just said "STOP!" and made it clear he's the one in charge, not anybody else despite all the negatives he has to deal with. I hope someday instead of trying to put Nique at a righteous angle, she comes out and does the same as she's always been about a bad girl who gets what she wants. Let Nique be Nique again because that's who we loved the most. |

Case 1: perfectly OK and more.
Case 2: perfectly sexist. |
I'm sorry if we can just back up here a moment without falling into a metatextual black hole -- aren't they the same fucking thing? Monique is not an autonomous being, she's a character created by a single human. So she's not doing porn readings because she's decided not to because that is what the artist/writer who creates her has decided she's doing.
It's a special kind of crazy everyone is descending in to. Tat is writing the strip, and the characters, and they're playing out and doing things like he plans them to because he writes the strip. For me, I think the cries of OMG HE IS A MISANDRIST are also especially crazy because although he's always worn his politics on his sleeve he's always shown that every side of something he's saying has its weak points. So when people start flapping about how he is just pushing a feminist agenda, then point things out like 'these feminists hate fun' as a reason why he's pushing a feminist agenda and should just stop rather than he's playing around with stereotypes from both side of the fence and those on top of it and those with the bolt cutters and those who aren't even really sure where the fence is and I know this sentence started a while ago but it just hammers home how bananas some of you fucking bananas can get.

First he set us all up with the Porn Script reading title with the standard introductory first panel. And after the let down ( Yes, it's not a typical porn take on some popular movie / theme), we get to see a new avatar of Squigley ( I LOOOOVED Sarah Piglin! Squee!!) and leaves us with a love tap on the cheek saying "Staying Classy" declaring his intent and indication. Maybe he isn't just changing his characters, but also trying to change his audience as well? Just a thought.

I think it makes perfect sense for Nique to not want to do these anymore.
But who cares! Come on Squig, show us your hot stuff! _________________ Sinfest Comments Bingo because we like Schadenfreude~ |

| I like that the character transformation that she's going through right now bled into the side story. Also I love you Dennis, something something impossible babies, etc. |

I want the little brother from Boondock Saints to play me in the movie version.
I can't wait for the bit where you get to watch him type that on the big screen! _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. I’ll do anything to protect them from hurt, the human race is what I serve." - Baba Brinkman |

giving all the people coming here just to whinge about the feminist arc, that would be hysterical.
oh, wait - i'm talking about him replacing those people with a whole new audience...that's what you meant, right? _________________ aka: neverscared! |

so in other words - you want her to be the exact opposite of the guy in the commercial, and do what everyone else wants her to do? because "that who we loved"?
really, what make you think she isn't following a natural course for her character? _________________ aka: neverscared! |

He's planning to continue the feminism arc until they all leave, then will start a new arc as soon as the new audience arrives |

oh mouse, don't you see? the natural course of her character is to be a thing for us to jack off to.
us meaning men, of course, because everyone knows women don't have sex drives. this is also what other female characters like Fuchsia are for.
the natural course of every character is dictated solely by what miserable hairy nerds want because they're too socially maladjusted or whatever to go meet real women. Tat has nothing to do with it. we are the true masters here. our clammy alabaster flesh will blot out the sun! our nasally mouth-breather voices will drown out all cries for succor! with the turgid malformed tubeworm-looking thingss we call dicks in hand, we will rule the world with an anemic fist! and all will tremble at the sight of our neckbeards!
*insert ominous Latin chanting* |

Voltz has a point, you know. 'Nique used to be more than happy to join in on perversions, and more than being a device to please men or whathaveyou, that was part of her character; part of what made her fun, and what made Sinfest fun to read.
Monique was always fun, and she made fighting the patriarchy fun.
But now she all serious when it comes to sexual matters such as these. Though she still has bubble rap. That's fun, right?
Lol! 'Nique, you's the good shit. _________________ DON'T PANIC |

You can't really use the second one in a decision matrix for what is less sexist because even if she did do it it's still because "the author wanted her to do it". It has the same weight on any side of the choice the author makes and so it's not really a factor. The statement is mostly only applicable when authors try to defend something they did with "but that's what the character would do!" The character is still a figment of the author's imagination and the author still has to make all their choices and is thus responsible for any problems in their portrayals/creations/characters/works.
On an unrelated note: Using Squig as an understudy like that was brilliant though. |
